I feel my quote is a rough figure. Somethings you might get cheaper, others more so depending whats on the market at the time. The thing which isn't quantifiable is the sundries like fuel to get parts, consumables etc etc. However with patience, time and planning you can get the costs down nicely.

Someimtes even with the initial purchase you can save a lot on the truck itself. Find a vehicle that has a problem which to most would be a big expense and a lot of hassle where the current owner hasn't got the resources we can provide, you then get it for peanuts and then with kind generosity of FOG repair it for far less than a garage would charge.

Case example is Robfogs current truck which was almost condemned at its last MOT. Welding, emissions, bust exhaust downpipe gasket, and horrid brakes, the repair bill would of been hundreds to get a valid MOT. We all got together round mine one day and cracked out the bacon sandwiches and tea/coffe. Rob got the parts he needed from cheap (but quality) suppliers and we gave his truck a makeover. Fudge welding up almost both sills with some scrap steel he got from work. Fogman and Mickh working on the engine doing a full service of all oils, filters, and plugs. Myself under the back completely refurbishing the rear brakes and adjusting them along with replacing a brake line. Rob standing there in shock as he saw his truck being pulled apart in front of his eyes then watching it go back together again. Needless to say it flew through the re-test and cost him far far less than the original quote. It also only took a day of spannering with plenty of banter and joking and proved to be a another good get together of club socialising, with that warm feeling of job well done.

Some good advice there chaps thanks, In my mind i've budgeted £1200 to buy the truck get it lifted and some M/T's so looks like i'm in the right ball park. There's a 2.0 sport on here we're interested in but has no MOT and worried it's going to fail and get a massive bill but like you said Neil if it does hopefully you kind chaps would help me out with it.

HOW MUCH!!!!! You could have mine for £800 Ive budgeted for tyres and rims still havent figured out the best way to do a sus lift yet but working on it.

Car was 1000 of ebay, 105 delivery london to gloucester, 2 bonnets, bumper, grill 250, next is the body shop for the slam panel thats another 150 would have been cheaper to buy a straight one but hey its been fun, shes had her electrics sorted, full history and looks great when its clean.

might go for one with a bust head gasket... like a challenge!!!! or am i mad

So all I'm doing is slowly working my way round replaceing components that are 15 years old and just traeting her to a bit of TLC

Well..I purchased my shorty in 2001 and that cost me a fair old wack back then..£4500 to be precise and still got original sales invoice for it.

Since owning the fronty i havn't really had to spend much on the car itself other than usual costs for spares and service items and the occasional water pump seizures.

The only real expence was my upgraded paintwork..New modern sunroof..new rear brake drums...handbrake cables..four new gas shocks...new copper brake pipes...goodridge front brake hoses...front discs...tailgate and rear bumper mods...new screen... Cost of work from a friend in Norwich for that lot was originaly £2200 but never cost me a penny coz it took them two years to let me know fronty was ready for collection..

Not been keeping count

The 2.8 LWB cost me £250- nearly 6 years ago, had MOT but needed work, luckily I can do it all myself including welding so don't spend any money on garage bills.

However in the quest for greater off road ability I have spent a few quid more than the original purchase price and I didn't even buy it to go off road and play

But I don't drink so money goes on the truck instead
