Postby Shrekkles on Thu May 13, 2010 9:55 am

well as some of you may have read my 2.5lwb is pretty terminally ill , I have been looking round and thinking of going for a petrol sport ( watching some on the bay ) , was just wondering as I have not seem any in action are they as capable as the bigger diesel fronty , apart from the obvious power difference was just wondering if they can still do same sort of froading , might seem silly question but was just wandering , cheers

Hi Shrekkles :D
I have a Fronty 2L sport and I am very happy with her, she goes where I want to go.. eventually  as you know they are not the fastest machine
If money was no object then I would buy another 2L sport as I personally like them :D

Good luck in your find

I got mine from http://www.gumtree.com/

Cheers
Roo :D

I have a 99 2.2 RS Sport which is blisteringly quick  (nothing to do with anything i've done to her) the 99 is 136BHP as standard obviously with some tweeks to the ECU and special spark plugs and air filters you are looking at some nice little increases but not had chance to off road her properly yet but on lots of soft sand and hilly bits and gave me no problem

Good luck with your search matey hope my ten penneth helps

Hiya Shrekkles..
The sports are good fun, I.M.O more agile / nimble BUT you have to offset that for stability / comfort against a LWB.

Mines a 'ikkle A series 2.0 sport, and its a giggle to drive, cheap to run, easy to fix  , ideal for bashing around / weekend car, but as a day to day commuting / family car - i'd go for a LWB :( as theres not much boot space (couple of carrier bags), the tailgate doesnt split, getting in and out of the back is a bit of a squeeze etc and as mines a leafer.. its a bit 'agricultural' on the suspension front  which adds to the charm!

Have a look at the SE picnic reviews.. from previous meets - theres plenty of pics / vids with shorties vs. long-uns.. David & Goliath..

Come on down for a play, next one is the 23rd May.

The sport 2.0 is not a fast of the mark on tarmac truck but its good to use as an everyday car yes mpg is not the best but if you accept it does not accelarate like a car then you will be fine. Lots ofn space in the back for rear passenger all be it they have to squeeze throught the space between the front seat. Not alot of space in the back for storage again let down by the rear seat not splitting. When the rear seat are folded down an folded against front seat you have a large space for storage.
Bonus part all the windows come out in the rear along with the part of the roof can be done in under 10 minutes, which make up for lack of air con, the front has a sun roof.
It drive like a car an is happy on the motorway

Offroad well i took mine offroad for the first time an well it is a different truck well capable of tackling alot of terrian an inclines without any strains it fits into area the lwb cant

"A" Series Shorty's more than hold their own against the LWB. They are more agile off road having the shorter wheelbase. Love mine to bits takes me where i want to go and can take a good pounding! See the Bala thread the review and look at some of them in action.
