banter general discussions etc

As many of you may know , I am breaking my fronty as it sadly died in the summer . Several members here have bought items from me and I have dealt with each and every one in the same way . I have asked all of them to make me a fair / good deal offer for the items they are after and we have gone with that as a price . In every instance I have insisted on sending the items (with me paying the postage ) , letting the person check out , fit and test the part to ensure they are happy and only then pay for both the item and the postage at that time. This has all worked fine so far and everbody has been true to their word and having checked and established that the parts are as expected have paid the agreed amount ...... until now. About a month ago , I sent a part to a member , I paid for the shipping , he recieved the item , fitted it and was very happy . He even enquired about other items . I made a request as agreed to his paypal account but no payment arrived , I PM'd him and was told that he had had some issues with his wages being paid wrong and could I wait a week - no problem , I understood , it happens . Two weeks go past still nothing , after me PMing again I am told that paypal wont pay as his credit card is not verified (so verify it !) , he says he will pay from his work paypal account if I supply my paypal address ....I did , nothing showed up . Now , I get no response at all , I have PM'd twice but get no reply He was on the forum af 11.30 today .... I understand that times are tough and that christmas is coming up etc , but times are tough for all of us and I have 4 kids that want stuff for christmas too .. I personally couldn't do what it seems he is doing , I have acted in good faith with every part that has gone and have recieved the same in return .... I want to warn other members about this guy but I am not sure if it is correct ( or if I can be bothered ) to name and shame him here . If he had been up front and said look , something came up and I cant afford to pay it all now , I would have said ok - its only about £30 but thats not the point , I don't like getting screwed over There are members here who have had parts from me who will vouch for my integrity So what do I do in this situation ? I think I can kiss the money goodby but what about stopping him doing the same to some other idiot Cheers Paul

I didn't want to charge for the postage up front , just in case something wasn't as expected ..... too trusting ,I guess but I have used various car forums for a few years and I have found that we all share a common interest and as such are generally genuine people . This is the first time I have been caught and it kind of leaves a bad taste .....

Personally I am interested in knowing who the member is but I think its best left to admin to make a decision on that one.
All transactions are between the seller and buyer as it wouldnt be fair on admin/mods if they had to mediate every transaction that had gone sour. While you have acted in good faith and been rewarded for doing so with every other sale you are still dealing with someone that you probably dont know personally. Due to this one transaction going wrong many others may not benefit from your trust and goodwill in the future.
I can only hope that theirs is a genuine reason for lack of payment in which case the person should step forward and say so rather then putting you on hold as it were.

I dont think naming and shaming is the way to go, but if members want to know who it is we cant do anything about PMs Paul you seem to have been more than fair in my opinion and trusted members and hats off to you It only takes one to spoil a good thing, please dont be put off with one selfish person.

Sorry to hear to have been stiffed for your money.... it is a shame that the occasional member cant play fair as they spoil it for everyone... You have been more than trusting, and done everything right, giving the member concerned ample opportunity to put things right... but it is disgusting when someone ignores your Pm's when they are in the wrong... and even after this you haven't dragged his name through the mud on the forum... Well done mate for being so decent and controlled.... If someone did that to me I would turn up at their house with the oxy propane cutting gear and force-ably remove the part from the car unless I was willingly given the part back immediately, plus expenses for my debt collection journey...harsh maybe, but I cant stand people like that... If its someone down in the southeast area, let me know, and I will go and get your bits back on Saturday for you...plus my expenses for retrieving them...

I don't think I am going to name him on the forum . I know who he is , he knows who he is and anyone who PM's me can know who he is . what goes around , comes around and I can sleep easy tonight . I will still deal with all members the same and will ship first , take payment when they are happy .Its the correct way to deal with these parts ..... after all , it all worked to my knowledge in June but I can't guarantee any of it so this way , all are happy before any cash changes hands. Thanks for letting me vent - feel better now Paul

Not to long ago, I had a trade with Britvette. It involvced getting something of mine, to him, (via Krusher ), and then organising when I could get to Wales to get the part I needed. This took longer than expected, and in the end, I paid for a courier to bring it to me. Thoughout Britvette was brilliant, even getting the part of the car at short notice, and leaving it for the courier man to collect. In no way can I fault Britvette in our transactions, and I think it is a shame that a member like Britvette has been let down in such a way. I have spoken my feelings in the past about naming and shaming, when Andy had his problem. I guess the only way around it, is that people will need to be very carful with whom they trade. If that means that newer members are left out of it, or something like that, I don't know. I know that Britvette isn't the only person with a problem like this at the moment, and some problems are the other way round (money sent but no parts arrived). I see FOG as a community, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the good guys, just the few rotten ones that need educating.
For what it's worth it was worth all the while It's something unpredictable but in the end is right I hope you have the time of your life

I'm a newbie myself and would hate to see the above take effect though I would understand entirely if it did. Makes my ** * * boil this kind of thing - there's just no need for it. If I was in a similar situation I would at least let you know that I couldn't afford it but would give you money back in bits or send the part back. While I understand there can be genuine reasons for a lack of communication I don't see it being acceptable that the said user continues to 'monitor' the forums (is active) but ignores the problem at hand. I say name and shame. If you were to mistakenly reply to this thread with his name instead of via PM because you hit the wrong button I'm sure the majority of the forum would understand.

I have had a response from the person in question apparently payment will happen tomorrow ...... we will see . If it does happen , then all is good Throughout all this , its not been the lack of payment that has been the issue , its been either the false promises of payment or no comunication that got on my t!t. I will update if/when it happens Thanks Paul
