you can bypass,immobilisers,well you can on diesel engines where there on the pump,i aint going to say how do to it on here because i dont wanna lose me van :wink: but any decent mechanic (vauxhall trained all the better)will be able to do it,thats only if the petrol fronty is of the same princible as a diesel vauxhall if it is job will not cost you more than 40 quid............

theecu has a feed from immobiliser you can get rid of the coding and remove it by having ecu code for immobiliser removed camco 88 do this everyday

when you put it back it does not need code

if you buy a new ecu from vx its same will work without coding

so a reprogrammed one does same

Firstly, there is an immobiliser ECU (Electronic Control Unit) normally situated on the steering column behind the ignition switch, that also incorporates a "reader coil" that reads the serial number off of the immobiliser chip in the ignition key.

Is this not for the `B`, most `B`s have a reader coil around the ignition barrel but do the `A`s????????????

VX confirm it is a faulty ECU which is £400 plus. Moral is sell your frontera before your battery goes flat or your ECU packs up. You cannot do anything but replace it despite what you may read in these pages.

I had same problem last night have been thumping dash top for a couple of weeks :lol: remove the glove box alarm ecu on top of glove box area remove ecu and bridge out the two thick brown and reds and it should start then just bin the alarm ecu :D then its time for good old :drink:
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!

Not sure what you mean by "bridge"
I've cut the thick brown thin red wire-nothing, cut the thick brown thick red-nothing and joined the two together and still nothing, is that what you meant?
Another call to CAMCO and despite what is said on this site about doing it every day, they tell me they cannot re-program this ECU, it needs a new one, £280 plus VAT!

Yeah thats right strange mine started up no prob just a thought have you checked the fuses under the drivers side dash cause theres a fuse in there on the symbols on the cover it's a key pattern. when i did mine i was probbing the wires to see what happened and poppsd that fuse you haven't got the same problem have you. is the alarm the one when you lock the o/s door with the key it arms the alarm a few seconds later.
It might be slow but i can go anywhere!

Yeah fuses all checked. The immobiliser light just stays on despite anything. It's the one where normally the light flashes and you wave the fob over the pad to stop alarm going off and to send message to ecu to turm immobiliser off.
As I say 2 auto electricians looked at it and were stumped, vx and camco confirm ecu bust.

Sorry about that mate mine must be diffrent. just a thought when the immobilizer wires are joined together is the alarm unit still connected to the alarm car cause i took mine off.

The emobiliser has been bypassed? how I don't know but when I pick it up on Monday I will ask.
He said he added a few wires ?
He is a 4X4 slpecialist mainly dealing with LANDIES.

Also to john, tried again what you suggested and left ecu off all together now all ignition lights flash as well which is the alarm trying to go off! I'll have another play tommorrow, as I now know that the immobiliser is a different ecu to the alarm and the main one. The immobiliser ecu is by the right kick plate, the alarm ecu is behind the glove box and the main one is behind the steering wheel and the dash has to come off for that! The plot thickens.

I asked the Mechanic what was envolved he says read the invoice.

Fault traced to immobiliser ECU repaired wiring loom as required?????????????
That's what it said, car does run better though??????????

got it back from Camco today, just connected it back up and the car started. Now I don't have to worry about alarms going off, or immobilisers jamming.

I wish I'd known earlier!That would of saved me a few quid. i am surprised it has not sold considering the number of faulty ECU's being reported on this site. My advice would be to buy it.

Further to my last posts on this subject should anyone wish to disconnect the alarm ( which in my case started going off at random after refitting the ECU) I can confirm that connecting the red and brown wires and throwing away the Alarm ECU does work.
