Hi All.
We made it home under our own steam (smoke in Jen's case).
Darren's 300 tdi Disco had minor alternator problems and a bit of overheating for part of the journey which cleared itself.
Chris (Grimley Reaper) had a bit of overheating in his 3.5 V8 Classic Rangey on the way home (but he was pulling the trailer, as we knew Jen's was not up to it).
Jen's truck is dead!
It was poorly before we left (I think she dropped a valve when we were there last week), rather smoky and a bit of rattle here & there. She still dragged the trailer with the toy 4x4, albeit in 2nd & 3rd gear most of the way! Due to the truck being poorly & Jen not feeling 100% (too hot & pregnant), she decided to wait until Sunday to take (or should I say thrash ) her truck round the course, hence it looks clean in most pics. Debs has some pics of the truck filthy.
On the way home, Jen's alternator light came on for a little while & cleared itself. The bottom-end rattle got louder & the smoke got thicker & more interesting in colour the further we went, getting worse when going through gears for slowing down & accelerating (she smoked out two pc's who were stood on a roundabout doing speed checks & we were gobsmacked she did not get a tug). The last 10 miles the oil light was on, (hardly surprising as most of the oil had p!$$ed out of the exhaust!) & the engine was starting to really struggle, not surprising as the bottom-end had started to chew itself. However, she made it home.
Now watching for a good 2.4 engine for her.
Thank you to Cj & Debs for a fantastic weekend & yes you were fine hosts!
See you again soon,
Darren, Jennie & Richard.

Hats off to Ian.
After seeing Chris' Rangey breeze up the notorious hill, followed by Darren in the Disco on the 3rd attempt, Ian had to prove the Fronty could also do it!
After 6-8 attempts Ian's Fronty acheived what appeared to be impossible, albeit with spectacular results!
A huge round of applause earned here.
Not a problem with going for the replacement rad, just glad to have been able to help.
I am gutted to hear that you and so many others needed recovering.
Cheers,
Darren.

Thanks for the bravo
Think i may have a serious issue though with the engine.
I now think i had a problem before coming to Stainby, its just trying to find it.
I think the engine is presurising too much and thats the reason i blew the rad. temp gauge always used to read high on motorways but presumed it was normal after reading various posts on the subject, but after thought maybe not normal. in 4x4 low, it has no problem, but maybe up hill or that perticular hill
Anyway couldnt travel more than couple of miles without boiling over,so had it into garage today, tried driving without rad cap on,and still same, i removed the stat and tried again and its better, until you floor it then temp goes upto 95 to 100 again, had head gasket test and checked out ok. Oh before all this i flushed out the system completely engine, heater matrix, rad, everything.every pipe etc.
Still suspect head gasket, coz that might explain tappety noise and oil presure light on tickover, although it might be due to the oil thinning from high temp.
Will get to the bottom of it though
Cheers to Cj and Debs for a brill weekend.
