Green Laning club

Hey folks,

As Green Laning is quite popular here on FOG the thought that popped in to my mind was to make a Green Laning club...

The basic idea is that we share our favourite lanes along with grid ref/map number locations and IF you are lucky enough to have memory map perhaps you can make up a memory map route which can be saved so we can load it in to our own version of memory map.

So lets see now.

You'd need to have the following info in each of your posts in this thread...

COUNTY
MAP TYPE (Landranger/Explorer)
MAP NUMBER
GRID REF
LOCATION on normal maps such as streetmap.co.uk etc
Special information about the lanes.
Any other relevant information.
Memory map route (link to file which you have saved from MM)

You could also include pics from your trip on THAT lane.
Also any map prints which show the lane...

Please, keep your post limited to ONE LANE per post. That way it can be easily worked out.
UNLESS (the only exception) you are putting together an entire route such as from memory map and you want the entire route listed...





PLEASE remember that these routes MUST be legally drivable at the time of posting. IF they become TRO'd (ie closed) then you need to edit your post saying they are closed so that no one gets in to trouble by driving on that lane.


The idea here is just to promote a little more fun... and perhaps encourage a few more folks to get involved with our fun by joining a little group to come out laning.

Remember though that FOG endorses the GLASS codes of conduct!
If you want to do something really good then you could join GLASS or a similar organisation like CRAG.

Hi guys

I think the idea of sharing favourite lanes is a great one!

As soon as I've got some better tyres (and a bit more time) I'll post some of mine.

in the mean time this is the best I can do!



A very easy but extremely attractive lane at Barnham (near Kings Forest) in Suffolk.

OS Explorer 229, Grid Ref TL 862,793 to TL846,769 (where I turned off SE, past New Zealand Cottages and on toward the A134 Thetford Road, although carrying straight on leads you to some more attractive but slightly more challenging lanes)).



The lane starts of as tarmac at the northern end is recorded as a Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) so it's 100% legal. In dry weather you could drive it in just about anything (although there's one section which is uneaven and a bit slippery after rain). Condition is mostly easy going, sandy gravel tracks.

OK it's not extreme or challenging but green laning can just be about enjoying the scenery and having a nice drive in the countryside can't it.

Besides this kind of lane is perfect for standard vehicles with road tyres or novice drivers who want to dip their toe into this green laning thing.

Watch this space for more (perhaps a bit more serious) East Anglian lanes!

Perfect post, thanks for the heads-up about that lane. That was just the right sort of post in the spirit of things.

Just one thing though, do you reckon you could shrink those pics down to 650x650 for us please?

OK I'm having problems with this!

I've resized the originals to 640x480, edited my original post and uploaded the new versions of the pictures but they don't appear to have changed!

Any suggestions?

I can just remove them if it helps but I'd like to know how to get them right so i can post more in the future.
