Shock absorber recommendations

Postby TCN on Mon Jul 30, 2018 10:42 pm

Hi all,

I'm new to the group, but a Fronty convert for a couple of years now.

My 2.5TD 'A' LWB has very tired shockers which I want to replace, but really want some advice as to which ones to get please?

Whilst I would like to do some off roading, the reality is this is my daily driver, so it will be more soft roading than off roading.

There appears to be a significant range in prices for the shockers I have seen for sale, with no real explanation of what you are paying for. The Fronty is a keeper, so I'm happy to pay for the right ones, just want to identify what are the 'right' ones!

Cheers, Tom.

KYB or PRO-COMP gas filled are good, don't know about others :oh yer:

Many thanks for that. Is there any particular company that you would recommend for other spares (clutch cylinder, brake calipers etc) or is it a case of just searching around?

Thanks,
Tom.

Hi Tcn,
Welcome to fog. I have a 2.5 as a daily drive and work vehicle and occasional foray down woodland tracks .
Not sure who to recommend ,I haven't bought very many parts for mine over the years, a couple off new starter motors, from local motor factors, some brake pads and sliders, these were from the cheapest company on eBay . Glowplugs are cheaper on eBay as well. It's a mixture of local and eBay depending on cost.
Mine went in for an mot yesterday and needs a small amount of welding on the sills and a brake light, so will probably get those done so hopefully have it for another year.
Good luck with yours.

Julian,

That's very useful - thanks. I've got a small fuel line leak to sort on mine - locating it is proving to be dificult.

Cheers,

Tom.

If your still looking for shocks might be worth having a look through this thread. A lot of the info will be dated.
