Altonator bearing issues

Postby Darren_1688 on Mon Jul 11, 2016 1:36 pm

Hello.

I have looked through previous posts but can't find any engine related issues. My altonator bearing is on its last bearings, giving a horrid sound on start up.

Can I buy a new pully and if so, how do you replace? If I was to unbolt, the belt would just move around.

Or do I need a new altonator? Even though mine works.

Regards

Darren

If it makes a horrid screech when starting I would say the belt is slipping. Could be the tensioner is giving up and not allowing it to tighten properly.

You have to replace the alternator as whole these days. repairing them is not that cost effective anymore, and I doubt anyone knows what size bearings you would need.
