fuel injection pump

Hi can someone please tell me if a 2002 or 2003 have the same fuel injection pump as a 1999 2.2 dti thanks

Depends on engine fitted, a 1999 is most likelt a XDTH and a 2002 will be YDTH, pumps are different as the later as on board ecu.

Cheers mate mines a 1999 3 door frontera 2.2 dti rs sport the pump this blokes got is off a 2.2 diesel and he thinks it's a 2002 or 2003 so if I'm to get a pump it needs to be the same model and year ??

Doesn't have to be the same year just the XDTH engine.

I've only just got it went through mot no worries but the fuel injection pump needs changing put it on my uncles computer it says critical fuel injection pump failure so I need to get a pump is there any thing written on the engine because the old boy doesn't do pics so I can't see the engine so if there is there any way to no if it's a xdth or ydth ??

Well obviously tne only way you can tell 100% which engine it is is by looking at it. The YDTH pump has 2 multi plus and the XDTH has a single plug.

The X22DTH and the Y22DTH use the same block and head it is just the inlet manifold/ exhaust manifold and injection pump that are different. The only way to tell is visual. That particular block and head are also used in the SAAB/ VAUXHALL VECTRA and a few others probably! They still manufacture that engine in different forms. Hope tha answers your question.

So its X22dth not xdth? Sorry for stupid questions I've only just brought the car so it's all new for me I'm just after a fuel injection pump looks the same as the xdth picture that was posted I'm just having real trouble finding one so does a saab and vectra have the same pump ? And would it have to b of the same sort of year

It's abriviated at xdth and ydth thus X22DTH and Y22DTH. How do you know it's definately the pump thats failed? Second hand units are available but can be a false economy as it could last years or just months before it to fails. Also it is a major job to remove and fit.

My uncle is a mechanic and plug it in to his computer thing and it came up critical fuel injection pump failure someone who had it before switched the Eml out it drives fine just is very sluggish it's had all vac pipes changed been serviced ect ! I don't really want to buy a new one there so expensive aren't they ? Second hand is my only option I think

you can get reconditioned units on an exchange basis i believe but im unsure on costs etc, it might be worth ringing around for prices.
im surprised its not coughing and spluttering if the fuel pumps on its way out thou

Its got good pull away just doesn't get high enough revs when your on a straight or motorway takes ages for revs to get up goes in to limp mode I haven't got a clue it's just what the computer said and my uncle when I brought it had been sat there for a year and a half batt was obviously dead we shaped the battery doesn't look man enough but it starts and runs it would this be an issue?

The battery I took off was bigger is all but was told the one put on was fine

I've rung 30 odd car breakers and no one has any pumps are there really rare ? Said will be between 400 and a 1000 pundits to recondition is it mainly the ecu that goes on them ??

I would say less are ecu issues these days, and more people running them out of gas...when they were expensive cars folk didnt think twice about keeping them brimmed at £100 a pop...but now they are cheap i fear they are run on £20's in a lot of cases, increasing the risk of them running out...Fuel lines are corroding out and starving the pumps, and a lack of knowledge from back street garages that dont prime the pumps and just crank the fuel through will all contribute to pump failures...
The majority of spares/repairs dti's will either have pump failure or a knackered auto box these days....but wont be described like that, more like "Only needs a sensor, they are only £2.50 on ebay, and easy to fit, but I dont have time and have bought another car so am selling"....LOL
