Well, if it's an 'offer' your after then I'll say £100.00 ......

Right, now you've stopped larfing / crying and picked yourself up off the floor lets talk clutch. Is changing the clutch a 'do-able' job? Yes, of course it is. The only limiters are firstly your spanner wielding ability, followed by available tools and finally cost of the bits.

I'll admit that I've never done the clutch on a 2ltr but have done more than a few clutch/flywheel/gearbox changes on a 2.8 to allow me to make a comment.

How long to do it? Well we had a 'spanner event' some time ago with around 8 attendee's when we changed the clutch on Drifty's 2.8 in a day but time wise that was a bit like 20% spannering, 40% chatting, 20% brew drinking and 20% pasty eating! Two people can easily manage the job in a day and probably 1 person on their own if they are focused on the job in hand, have the gear to do it and are carefull not to drop the gearbox on their head! (2 days is easy for 1 person)

Tools reqd, when I do one of my 2.8's (engine comes out of Truck tommorrow Again, so that'll be the gearbox off again, along with clutch etc etc did I say again? Aye again  ) I'll be using:

A 1/2" socket set where I can get the sockets in and a 3/8" socket set for the err more awkward to reach bolts (top of gearbox bell housing).
Some metric spanners (prop shafts, exhaust, gearbox mounting bar etc) a mix of open-end, ring and ratchet as appropriate.
A lever winch block off a home made lifting beam to hold the gearbox up (through the gear stick hole in the tunnel) if you get the gearbox balanced it's easy... and a length of rope (rope is tied to the end of the gearbox and passed out under the rear of the vehicle, once the bolts are all undone, the box is supported by the winch you just pull the rope and the gearbox comes loose with you stood up, and safe with no risk of a heavy gearbox on the head).
Clutch alignment tool for putting it back to-gether again.
Something to drain the gearbox and transfer box oil into.
2.5 tonne trolly jack to help level up the engine when putting it back together ( I do NOT jack the truck up or remove the wheels to do the job. If I did then it's decent axle stands all round).

All the work is done outside in the yard, rain... sun... snow whatever.

Cost? You will need a clutch kit (£100 to 150) Oil for the gearbox and transfer box (say £30) box of teabags, milk etc. Tools wise, cost? Halfords do a good selection and at a fair price (go for the professional range (IIRC made by Snap-On) they will last, the rest while usefull will wearout/break) if you don't already have the gear but are willing/able to give it a try then the cash saved from the garage should go a long way to covering the cost of the tools. And you can always use them again for the next project.

Haynes book of lies  Not that bad, worth having a copy to hand.

Finally.... Have a good look round the site, there's more than one thread on removing/replacing gearbox's and clutches be it a 2.8 or a 2ltr at the end of the day a clutch is a clutch and the principle is the same. Oh and theres enough folks on here who could help with advice or even hands on if you gets stuck.
This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ;) )

Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you.... 'O-no' the truck.

Comments on 'O-no' the truck may be left here

Owning a 2.8 is a hobby in it's self...

Thanks for the advice, still driveable, and cba to do the clutch, got a clutch kit for £130, just need someone to do it, lol. Already bought another car as I'm simply not up for doing it myself, plus I don't have anywhere available to do it, on street parking is a pain. So if anyone wants it, £450 Ono with the clutch kit.
