First off I would sell the disco yes they are great for towing and off roading but they just like to rust away. Then buy a 2.8 hopefully with a working heater if not a 3.1 trooper
And keep the 2.0 shorty as a toy for the laning trips & fun days in the woods
i hate having Dyslexia

I would sell the disco, give Dan 50p for his black 2.8 shorty (check yours change though as he is ginger) and me £120 for a good gearbox, and drop a 2.8 into your good little shorty.

i love land rovers, i owned one for 3 years (a proper landy that is) the scene is huge, truly iconic vehicle, parts availability astonishing, dynamically they are ok if a little agricultural. the one thing japanese trucks win hand over foot is value for money, comfort and engine development.
so i vote the same as the current trend. get a more powerful TD fronty

I was going to put an answer to this but no matter how honest I was it sounded biased and one sided.
If I did then I would say your best choice in my opinion for a good all round towing, offroad, simplistically built your looking at a 3.1 auto SWB Trooper/Bighorn/Monterey.
3.1 is the stroked 2.8 - no ecu (if you avoid the post 1995 Bighorn automatic's), and perfect for towing. Autobox means your gammy ankle won't be punished by a clutch pedal. SWB as you prefer them.
Nothing else has that particular combo of options. No 2.8 Frontera has an autobox. Disco's fall apart.

Rob you looking for lwb or swb? as you know you can't beat the 2.8 for simplicity and reliability, you could keep the sport as a toy but then you'll be back to square one when you need to tow your van for weekenders etc. Have you driven a 2.5? only had mine a few months but it pulls well and is nice to tow with, if you want to test drive one your more than welcome to take mine out.
