Oops, jacked up one corner of my dads van ( citroen dispatch) to replace the wheel - he telt me we didnt need axel stand for this - i said naw ive got em handy i might as well use em

Jacked van up - stuck stand in and was taking wheel off - trolley jack just colapsed and van ended up on the axel stand.

Lucky no one was hurt anyway- remember and use your axel stands folks.

New jack required - anyone used the arcan alu 1.8 low profile quick life from costco ? Any one any advice on anything better ?

Yeah... Use a jack that is suitable for the load your sticking on it!!! I use a 2.5 tonne jack on the truck, which is okay but I do need to watch whats in the truck at the time. TBH I would be better off using a 3 tonne high lift jack on it. I NEVER go underneath with it just on the jack, always use axle stands even for wheel changes and a stand goes under as soon as possible too.

Try Machine Mart they are a fair price and of reasonable quality.

Theres always Halfords I believe they may be doing an offer on one of their trolley jacks atm???

Empty dispatch weighs 1650kg - my fronty comes in at 1900kg.

Wasnt lifting a whole empty dispatch - just a corner.

It was well within the 2 tonne printed on it.

Tis just old - i always use my axel stands and things like this are why.

Even a 2.5tonne jack can still fail- just reminding folk not to be complacent like my dad was going to be today.

Oh do like the look of that 3 tonne quicklift. Got a 15% off voucher through from them today as well, interesting the arcan jack in costco rated at 1.8tonne looks almost identican to the clarke 1 1/4 alu jack in machine mart...hmmmm

Know someone who did the same. Only difference was the brake disk came down a whisker away from the end if his toes. 3" closer and he would of lost them.

I know someone who used a dodgy bottle jack under the axle of a lwb fronty, when a wheel fell off his truck...and the bottle jack slipped, and the car hit him on the head!
