I have a dead V6 Ford Explorer on my drive with a fully functional LPG system on board. Planning on removing it this weekend.

What do I need to look out for, and what should I be looking for?

Well, in my vast experience of removing one..! Its pretty straightforward.

Not sure what you are asking for, but main parts are rear cylinder tank and fittings, associated pipework to the filler and back to the front of the car. Shut off solonoid, vaporiser or pressure thingy ( also tapped into the water system ), pipes, injector bar. Wiring loom, ECU and probably the taps into the inlet manifold if its a multipoint system and internal switch/fuel level gauge.

If you carefully follow each part you should get everything. Just take your time and note where everything goes so if you do re-use it you can re-install in the reverse manner.

Well that was simple. Tank was a giant donut that sat where the spare wheel should of been. Everything else was installed really well so just a matter of tracing stuff until it was all out.

Multi-point system with an LPG feed to each piston inlet. It has Bigas on it. Dunno if it is a good system or not but has put me in the mind to look at Frontera/Trooper V6's now

If you stick it back in a explorer take the inlet manifold of aswell , then you don't have to drill the manifold if you get another explorer .....
I did mine from frontera to frontera , easy enought if it's going in the same truck wouldn't have a clue sticking it in another motor tho lol

Already thought of that one The lines from the LPG injector manifolds are still connected even.

I think retro fitting it would be easy enough. Just have to identify the cylinder firing order and make sure you go like for like with the individual gas feed. Splice into the relevant injector wires from the LPG ECU. Mount the vaporiser and tank. Splice into the Lambda sensor wire. Break into the cooling system for the vaporiser (I kept all the fittings). Find a suitable place to fit the filler and run a feed to that. run the wires to where they need to go. I think the most awkward bit would be wiring the injectors.

Was the Explorer a V6?
Usually the ECUs are different with multiple outputs, if it was a 4 Cylinder then you may/will need a different ECU to add the additional Injectors. If it was a V6/V8 then you should be OK. You will need to get the lead so you can plug in and tune it to the new vehicle, cheap enough on eBay or similar. Other thing to check is the gas injectors can provide enough gas for the new vehicle. The Frontera V6 injectors need to be rated for same or higher BHP. Not sure how this would compare to the Explorer. But all parts are pretty cheap.

And fit a new Gas filter.

Yeah the Explorer was a 4.0 V6. Very similar power output to the 6VD1W (DOHC) 3.2 Isuzu V6 as well. Looks like it wouldn't take much to tweak it to suit, if anything at all. I reckon it could be installed easily without much needed doing to set it up.

There is an LPG specialist near me that offers LPG tuning for £50

Only thing I would probably invest in is a larger tank. The one removed was quite rusty and small.
