Should I ?Hi everyone Im new to this site but if I have my way will be part of it soon ! . I have a chance to buy an M reg 2.4 diesel truck off a great friend who is also a fab mechanic . I am a community worker in a large city but love 4x4s and in my spare time buy sell and transport caravans and trailers - so this is ideal . Im concerned parts for this truck will be harder to come across in future , MPG ? and repair costs . please advise me . I rattle round in a little 206 currently - will life be better in a frontera ?
Re: Should I ?Hi Denzo. Were all slightly biast on here as we love them to bits. Unfortunatley Vauxhall never made a diesel 2.4. They did make a petrol one though! Diesels are 2.2dti 2.3 2.5 2.8
As for towing the 2.8 is the best for that but a lot of us run 2.2dti "B" series.. they are realy a compromise not bad on mpg and ok for towing. Hope this gives you a bit of an idea???? Regards Bobster. Comments on Betsy here please!!! viewtopic.php?f=115&t=56282

Re: Should I ?they did produce a 2.3 diesel in the a series - most parts across the a series lwb range are common apart from obviously the engine turbo and ancillaries - i know the 2.3 is a good workhorse and can do high mileage if maintained well but they are not the quickest of frontys, im sure Ratcav will be of more help as hes had them in the past and at present !

Re: Should I ?2.2dti B Series is good as a tow with Caravans etc, never had an issue with the go on mine even with a fully loaded caravan, three passengers and kit. 2.8's seem to be the choice for towing but having used my old 2,2dti as a tow car i am struggling to think of a reason why they aren't as good...
Rule #3: Don't believe what you're told. Double check

Re: Should I ?If its an A series 2.3 TD then you should be seeing around 30-35 mpg. Less so if your towing. They are gutless peaking around 70-80 mph (downhill, with a tail wind, with a Sprinter van pushing). Thing is with the 2.3 it will do that all day everyday regardless whats on the back end. I use mine to tow 4 ton trailers accross fields with no hassle at all.
Off road that torque is very useful and having an engine made out of pig iron with a long stroke makes for a very steady drive, with plaenty of engine braking downhill. The 2.4 petrol is much the same. Probably a bit thirstier, but a few more ponies under the hood. Cannot go wrong really for old school simplicity. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
