2005 vectra 2.2 petrolHas anyone any experience with the above? The engine code is Z22YH. I've just bought one for next to nothing from my boss. Basically it was running fine when he pulled up to a petrol station to fill up. After filling it, it just wouldn't start. It turned over fine but wouldn't fire. He had it recovered to Vauxhall who said it has no compression. So they checked the timing chain but that's fine. Then they said we don't know what's wrong with it so we'll try a new something or other (can't remember what he said) at a huge cost. He basically said no and said he'd come and collect the car soon. Well I went to collect it this evening and because they left the cam cover in the boot I could see that sure enough the chain was indeed fine, albeit alittle slack (I'm assuming it has oil tensioners so would appear slack with no oil pressure) I haven't gone any further with it because it's too dark and cold. But any ideas why it would loose all compression if the chain is ok?

Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolTiming chains can stretch or the guides wear and this can cause them to jump teeth.

Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolI've had exactly the same on the same car 06 vectra 2.2 direct Sri. Turned out it was the small screw in the tensioner that had snapped, these are prone for it n that caused the chain to slip and shaft one of the cam sprockets. The first garage It was recovered to couldnt diagnose the fault in nearly 2wks n tried alsorts to fix it and caused more harm, luckily a vauxhall mechanic looked at it and knew exactly what the fault was and even tho it ended up costing a small fortune to fix, it only took him a few hours to sort.

Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolI have herd the fuel pumps can die without warning and I can see that the chain might have stretched. But would of thought that would of happened on a cold start not a hot start? (less strain due to oil still being warm and we'll distributed)
I've disconnected the battery so here's hoping that once I've checked the timing and put it back together it just fires up... Ha! Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolWhen the engine is warm/hot it will stretch.

Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolWhen ours went our lass had just pulled in to see her dad on her way home from work so it was hot.
I hope you have luck on your side with the timing but I think youll be very lucky for it to just fire up! Have a good look at the timing tensioner, make sure the small machine screw is intact, if it's not you'll save loads of time. IF ITS NOT BROKE, YOUR NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH!!

Re: 2005 vectra 2.2 petrolTo save me even more time do you know were this tensioner is? And how do I access it? Vauxhall kindly left the locking tool for the cams bolted to the engine so that'll help lol. I'll have a look on epc to see if that sheds some light but advice from those who have been there done that before is better
