Air Con CompressorJust a quick one does anyone know if its possible to do a rebuild on a air con compressor. The voltage is getting to it ok but nothing happens also if i go across the pins of the compressor should i get a reading. Cheers.

Re: Air Con CompressorSounds as if the clutch magnet is knackered. Can be replaced if you have a good magnet and a puller:
![]() ![]() From these pictures you can see the big round magnet that sits behind the pully. To get it off you take out the middle bolt. Gently prise the clutch off. Remove the circlip. Get a puller to remove the pulley and the magnet sits in front of you. Get a screwdriver and hammer. Put the screw driver in the screw and tap the hammer to shock the screw. Then remove. Repeat four times and the clutch will be in your hands. You don't have to remove the compressor to do this .. in fact that is a good thing as releasing air-con gas to atmosphere is illegal and carries a hefty fine .. very hefty and sometimes time at Her Majesty's pleasure. I assume you have put a direct 12v feed to the wire and looked for the clutch moving. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: Air Con CompressorHi RatCav. Thank you for the write up and photo's. Not actually put a direct 12v feed to the compressor yet but we are getting 12v to the plug that powers the compressor so we know the pressure switch is ok. Will try a direct feed tomorrow and see if that makes any differance. Have you any idea what sort of reading i should get if i put a meter across the pins on the compressor. Yes very true about releasing air-con gas to atmosphere but if we do need to remove it we are able to take it somewhere to have the gas removed.

Re: Air Con CompressorNo idea on the reading you should get, but if you push 12v into the magnet lead it should be strong enough to pull the clutch plates in against the pulley.
Will point out the pictures above are of a refrigeration compressor and as such yours might not look the same. The principle is the same though.
