what do you say? When you tell people how much you have spent on the last repair. Or modification I'm always asked why do I spend that much on a car that's only worth a few hundred pounds. I say cause I don't want to get in debt for another one. What do you say
Re: what do you say?Nothing, I fix it

Re: what do you say?The joys of motoring!
It doesn't matter what you drive, once it gets past about 7 years old it's going to start costing to keep it going. I'd rather drive an old truck thats relatively cheap and easy to repair over a more modern thing that'll cost you an arm, leg and both testicles every time something goes wrong
Re: what do you say?My insurance is worth more than the car. I have to explain that every year but it may sound a bit daft but you do get attached to your fronty

Re: what do you say?Simple.... Just do the math.
Cost of truck = 700 (a one off cost, which tbh is likely to well covered if I sold it and a bit of profit on top, either way it's unlikly to depreciate unless I do summit silly like park it on it's roof) Gen maint cost/year = 300 +/- (mainly oil, filter, brake pads, bulbs & MOT). Tyres = 400/year. Big bit replacement = turbo (530) Alternator (120) both one off replacements (I hope). Fuel = Dont ask, enough to say 500 miles/week plus weekend driving say another 100. Insurance = 300 +/- for unlimited miles + biz use (incl declared use on airfield) Tax = 120/6 months Had the truck for nigh on 3 years now, it's got 215k on the clock and I've done about 90k of that. Now, look at cost of a new veh that will do the same as the truck, allow for depreciation, dealer servicing although that may be free if under warrenty other wise silly money. Fuel = probably about the same. Insurance = more than 300 quid! Tax = lol... silly money. I think I know which one comes out tops... At the end of the day, for me it has to... Get me from A to B, get my work kit from A to B, tow stuff, go anywhere I point it at and keep the rain out while doing it. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: what do you say?Folk make critical comment of me having the Fronty in addition to the main motor.
I point out that tax & insurance work out at about 9quid a week - roughly a packet of cigarettes and a pint. Does someone smoking 20 a day suffer the same scrutiny? Kodiak Transglobe 2.0 SWB

Re: what do you say?Yet to find another vehicle that will do everything i need it to do for the same price and remain as maintenance free! It does need some money spending on it at the moment but its been so good up to now i think its worth it to keep it cracking on for another 1-2 years...
