Help needed with transit disc removal

Postby Andyoz on Sun Jun 09, 2013 2:16 pm

Below is my posting on the ford transit forum. 24 views but no replies as yet. Has anyone on this forum ever done this job on a Mk7 2007 RWD Transit?
>>>>>>>>I'm trying to help out a neighbour with brake failure on his 57 plated 2.4 twin rear wheeled tipper. At the moment i have got everything undone as in Guy88's how to on disc replacement on non ABS front hubs. What I am stuck on is removing the ABS ring/cup from the back of the stub axle. It was a bit muddy in there and I could not get any of my bits to fit the hole that I assumed was Torx. Having looked at the other side it appears to be more triangular and I don't have any bits that shape or have never seen any either. I'm thinking it may be an interference fit but there would be a risk of the part detaching and falling on the road. Could anyone please confirm how it's fixed and the removal procedure please. By the way I have searched the forum and cannot find any reference to the removal of this item.
Many thanks in advance<<<<<<<<<<<

Andy from working on a lot of Ford brakes they used to use a 7mm allen key as this was allways the size that was never in a set when you bought it. I dont know if this would be the same on your Transit.

Bob,
The hole for a bit in the cup of the abs ring is like a triangle but not very cleanly cut. It looks more like a casting finish. It's about the size of a T45. I'm now thinking that I may have to take the whole hub off and press it off with a hydraulic press.
Rich,
That thread is for the rear brakes for which I'm awaiting delivery of a 3/4 drive breaker bar and torque wrench to complete the rear disc change.
Many thanks for your responses, I'm still waiting for one on the transit forum and can't believe that no one on there has never had to do this job.

if you look where the stud are there is a set of holes slide a long t50 down them this will remove the wheel bearing hub and brake disk. as for removing the abs ring remove the split pin and castle cap behing there is a 36mm? nut undo that and push the spigot out. then you need to knock the bejesus out of the disc and it should all separate from the van. from there you remove the disc using the 13mm bolts visible from the front

Gazeddy, Thanks so much. That makes sense. I'm just back from the vet's and having a cup of coffee then I'll be off out to do it. Once again FOG to the rescue.

Update. Went out to remove the nut needing a 36mm socket only to find it needed to be a deep socket as mine would not go over the threaded portion and on to the nut. £15 lighter for a 36mm impact deep socket and it's all apart. Many thanks for all the help.
