Is 2.8 worth spending 6000euros

Hello

So if i had to register a 2.8 tdi frontera it will costs me around 6000euros...
This price includes:

- estimated 2500-3000euros the car price
- eco tax around 2500euro
- going through verifications and autentications through autorithies taxes

And now the anual taxes:
Now i pay tax because i own the car for 2.0i is around 50euros ...For 2.8 it will be around 500euro/year
Insurance is around 150euros for either of them ...

The eco tax is payed for vehicles that are registered in romania before 2007 and have no eco tax payed or if i bring a car from outside romania and i register for first time in country...
I own a 2.0i...
The chances to find a 2.8 in my country that had the tax payed and is in decent condition is pretty slim..
Is it worth the hassle to jump to 2.8 ?

I forgot to mention that 500euros is more than the medium salary here..So basically i pay 1 salary and a little bit per year just because i own the car.
Compared to an Isuzu 3.1 the same tax is around 1060euro // year (Is considered above 3.0 and have a different cost)

That seems a massive amount of money to change to a 2.8 Catalin

Is your 2.0 litre running OK? If it is why change to a 2.8 with all that added expense.
Whats the 2.8 going to give you extra for that massive extra outlay.
Granted the 2.8 is a pure mechanical engine with no ECU/sensor problems and a reputation to go on for years if serviced correctly.
Axles modifications are available if utilising Isuzu Trooper axle transplants. Other than that a Frontera is a Frontera.

The local purchase price is a shed load more than what I would pay for a 2.8. Reckon you could get a 2.8 LWB for £700+ in UK. Might be a bit more for a SWB if you can find one.
2,000 to 3,000 euros, reckon a Toyota Landcruiser or Nissan Patrol would be on my shopping list.

Before 2007 (EU adhering) we weren't alowed to bring second hand cars from outside country...After that things got "bad" for local market...Masive amounts of old cars end up here and the new cars producers (Dacia) fell off..The goverment wanted to limit the second hand market somehow so they put this taxes to discourage registration of second hand cars..Everybody knows that this tax have nothing to do with enviroment protection..Most of my guys in offroad club with big engines 2500+ cm3 have their cars registered in bulgaria with bulgaria matriculation number..This may or may not work in the future...They want to "repair" this too..

I wanted an honest opinion on this upgrade to 2.8 if it's really worth because the cost is kinda huge versus what i have now..Also my 2.0i feels like a tank ...I have to change some ball joints and repair some cracks in the car body but the car is working...The 2.0i engine just keep going and going..I feel more confident that i can go around the world with my Frontera by adding basic liquids (coolant, oil, screen cleaning liquid)..The only problem with this trip is the driver itself.. :))

Could you not just change the engine/gearbox in your current car to a 2.8 diesel, and forget to tell them. :wink:

Legally i am not allowed this conversion because the diesel engine brings more polution than my current engine..Both engines have same EURO norm..
If i had the C20NE version i could do this i think because this 2.0 engine is older than my current 2.0i so theoretically the 2.8 diesel should be more enviroment friendly ...

But you can get a 2.8 on a P reg so a year younger than your car...The c20ne and 2.8 where never made at the same time, when they went coil sprung the petrol option changed to the x20se, and the 2.8 was only available as a coiler.

Was looking at B swb in Eire before i bought the V6, it was badged as an opel & stunning, but i couldnt justify the cost for vehicle/ ferry & tax,
No Matter how good it was :thumbdown:
