Its looking feasible...
Thinking about changing the front diff for a taller ratio one so I can run different size tyres on the front...I dont want it to look like a car derived pickup stuck on a 4x4 chassis...I want it to look more BAJA Bug than 4x4...only hoojer...
so will do some maths and see if running a 4.88 front diff sooner than a 5.13 might be enough so I can run something like 33-12.50-15s on 10j's on the rear and 31-10.50-15's on 8's on the front...
Thats the kinda look I want...then full external cage with steel chequer plate wing tops to cover the tyres...
Think of kinda like a madmax creation...only "road legal"...
Gonna need to extend the chassis, but thats easier than shortening it with a fronty as the frame rails arent paralell, so shortening a lwb frame would mean the rails simply wont line up...wheras stretching means the tapered rails would just have a straight section. Would make sence to fiddle brake the rear as would need to make new brake lines...would be rude not to wouldnt it. Seeing as the rear prop will need extending for the chassis stretch, it makes sense to SOA it as well really. I have some coilover kicking around, so might look at ditching the torsion bars at the front in favour of these. They are quite long, and will probably have to stick out of the bonnet a bit...but I like that sort of thing!
Want to stick with the 2.0i configuration, sooner than 2.8 it, as if it all goes according to plan a c20let might find its way under the hood. In honesty I think I would sooner have the stability of rear leafs sooner than coils, so it will go sideways better.
The rear section of roof cage is going to be removable, so I can have one cage that will fit around a truckman top, and another one for when the lid is off...I "might" be able to get a skoda fun rear seat set up off a mate who's breaking one, this slides out of the back of the cab making it a 4 seater..dunno yet...means cutting the cab back out which I am not sure if I wanna do though.
Probably gonna use the complete fronty wiring loom, and instrument cluster, and connect this to the caddy switchgear and electrics... probably the pedal box and mastercylinders too to keep stuff simple.
Was inspired by Jeohs roof console in his shorty at the annual...so have been looking at various centre consoles with a view to cutting one down height wise so it matches the shape of the roof lining, and then mounting it upside down and back to front to the back of the cab roof....stereo can be up out of the water then, cb can go in there too, and I'll make up a neat switch panel to fill the gearstick hole.
So a plan is hatching...need to do some measuring and decide exactly what I need to keep off the body of the fronty before I strip it...
Gonna keep it on the fronty reg, as that puts it early enough that it falls into the "anything goes" bullbar catagory...so expect something outrageous!
