Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilWell that looks like that was a success. I've just calculated the MPG and it looks like I got 38mpg on the way home. I don't know if this is completely accurate as it seemed that the pump in Norwich filled the tank a bit further than normal as the gauge went up much higher than usual. I'm not sure what the mileage was on the way up but I seem to remember it was 117 before I zeroed the counter in which case I only got 25.4mpg on the way up. I think that might be wrong because of the pump filling the talk higher than normal in Norwich. However, I reckon there is an improvement in MPG but I'll not be able to tell that until I can do a run with a refill at the same pump at the end.
On the general running I think I noticed it more at the beginning and end of the journey which sort of reflects what I said as we drove up the hill outside Neal's house. I think the biggest difference is the acceleration as there just seems more power in the lower gears when I'm in town. However, here's the thing. (And I'll start another thread about this as it's weird.) For some reason I can't turn the electrics off. When I turn the key back the the last position the clock stays lit and the radio stays connected. I'll not give the details here as it really deserves to go in the electrics section but I don't understand it. I'm pretty sure we didn't touch anything electrical apart from me disconnecting that alarm horn which I've tried reconnecting and it made no difference. (Here's the thread I've started in the electrical section: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=53824) Anyway, thanks again for all your work guys and let me know when there's a camping weekend I can make it to. Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilSo just to get the names right, that was:
Neil AKA RatCav whith his marvelous hospitality Andy AKA AndyTats with the stamina to stay under the truck on the cold even if we'd have gone off and had a cup of tea (I would have started complaining about the discomfort long before then Bobinsjob AKA (I can't remember) with the various holes in his head from my bonnet and the unexplained wood sticking out of the side of the garage. MickH AKA Mick (at a guess) who got his hands dirty :) "Every man and every woman is a star." Uncle Aleister.

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilBobbinsjob (Ian), and his unexplained wood sounds a bit perverse lol.
Glad we got it sorted, and she is running better than before. All in all a good days work. Many thanks to bobbinsjob for the birthday cake, and andytatsboss for the cup cakes. Also kotch for the beer. A couple of those hobgoblin's went down a treat after I washed the diesel off me. Will post birthday cake picture when I get some time today. Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilGood stuff, glad the beers went down well. Any left over (as if) take them to the May meet and drink to me while I'm in my tent elsewhere. :)
I've posted a new thread about my trip. If anyone can remember any of those ideas or any contacts then put them on the thread. When I get a chance I'll post the pictures. "Every man and every woman is a star." Uncle Aleister.

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilWell it's completely transformed. I came out of Rochester Airport today and down the M2 to the Medway Bridge and it was completely different. No holding back, when I lifted my foot a bit it just coasted instead of coughing and smoking. I reckon what was happening was that it was rolling down the hill on fairly high revs but with not much throttle. Presumably that meant the butterflys were closed so very little air was getting in and, thus, the fuel wasn't burning and giving off smoke.
For those who weren't there this is what we discovered in the inlet manifold and the result after cleaning: (I've just realised I don't know how to post pictures.) "Every man and every woman is a star." Uncle Aleister.

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilDid I speak too soon?
I'm wondering if we have a series of coincidences. The car was going fine until about mid week until I came out of work and it started first time. However it was really rough (like a misfire) and then died after a few seconds. I restarted it, it turned over without firing but with a lot of blue smoke until after about ten seconds it fired. It was lumpy until I revved it quite hard with a lot of smoke and finally the misfire went and it's was fine from then on. This has been happening every time I start it from cold; it dies unless I rev it hard. From warm it's absolutely fine and once it's going it's smooth as anything. Any thoughts? Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilI was trying to ask they guys who would have direct experience of what we did last Saturday. Seems reasonable, it is related.
And anyway, where does unexplained konking out go? I've looked at at the threads under mechanical (it's certainly not electrical on a diesel) and I can see axles, bodywork, interior, exterior, Uncle Tob Cobbly and all but I can't see unexplained konking out! So this seem the most sensible place to put it. "Every man and every woman is a star." Uncle Aleister.

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilYou know a clear help file would be a really good idea. I know there's forum rules (the term rules just seems a bit proscriptive) but telling people not what to do doesn't really help people know what is the right thing to do.
The thing is if I knew what the problem was I'd know where to post it but then I wouldn't need to ask the question. Still I suppose it's okay to post it here now because it's turned back into a general discussion, now that we're discussing how many posts you can get on the head of a pin instead of asking a technical question. Hmm? I wonder if my car is going to start when I go out there. "Every man and every woman is a star." Uncle Aleister.

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilWe have rules and upon signing up to the forum you agreed to abide by these rules, I have asked once before in this thread to refrain from posting techi info and it was noted.
I have asked you nicely and not sarcastically and I do not expect to be replied to sarcastically. You have and engine problem with a 2.2dti I would suggest posting your issue with the engine in this section. viewforum.php?f=18 Thank you..... Ste

Re: East Anglian Spanner Party 6th AprilFYI Drift is not a moderator, he owns this site and is Forum Admin on here...so kinda what he says goes, and he lays out the rules, which most people on here think are bang on right, as it makes this an informative and concise forum to research information on.
However I am a Moderator, and yes its a thankless task made even more thankless by smart arses who seem to want to bore the cr4p out of us with reams of pointless drivell, feeling the need to argue everything sooner than actually following what are pretty simple rules really. Everyone else seems to get it, get with the program matey. Locking the thread for fear of running out of server space when the inevitable reply arrives.
