Points on licence query ?

Few years ago while wife and I got divorced I had a bad year managed to get a number of points on my licence 14 thanks to a very nice and considerate judge I got to keep my licence.
Now points are valid for 3 years then considered spent but cant be removed till 4 years are up my 3 years were up on 04/10/2012 so they come off this year.
My query is would a company employ you with spent points as a driver even though you have not reached your 4 years to have them removed. I ask because local dole office monkeys have said I should apply for driving job now the points are spent.

I suspect it'll come down to each company's individual policy, and probably to a certain extent their vehicle insurers.
Do all the points have the same date on them, or are some already past that 4 year point of being removable? Just thinking, as it may be worth your while getting what you can removed so as to clean up the licence a bit.

Going for a driving job the first thing the company is going to ask for is going to be your driving licence, and being brutally honest here, there are more drivers chasing jobs than there are jobs to be filled, even lower down the weight classes, so anything that can be done to help is a good thing.

got my speeding ones that could be taken off middle of march. Was thinking that would prob be down to the employer but at least its something else i can look for also means i can apply for the jobs where i may be using a company van or car

No company will take on anyone with points for at least 5 years have been clear. insurance etc.. Thats the way it is for most of them now. sorry to say..

In my understanding points on licence for 3 years and kept on record for 5 years(police recognise this) where they are wiped clean by Dvla, employers are their own judges on taking people on with points depending on what their insurer's say.

5 years is usually what personal insurance companies work to as far as convictions and accidents go.

4 years is the length of time an endorsement has to stay on your licence for, at which point you can get them removed. The points only count for totting-up for 3 years though; 12 points is the normal limit unless you persuade the authorities to let you keep driving.

As previous posts say, its up to the employer.

Peronal insurance companys ask for all prevous convictions and accident in the last 5 years as you will know.

But commercial insurance can be a bit different, depending on the policy the employer has.

I was running 12 vans about 6 years ago, all the vans were insured for any driver, drivers werent named, had loads of different ways of taking out my policys, ours were any driver over 25 years old,( but believe it or not your actualy discriminating people now if you state that in a job vacancy, even though it might put thousands of pounds onto the insurance if you dont state this)

Also all our drivers were allowed 3 penalty point on their licence when starting with us, but once they were started we could keep them even with 9 points on their licence. which basicaly ment we could keep them till they were banned as the next 3 points would ban them.

Most companys will ask you to hand your licence in every 6 month to check they are ok also, I did anyway, lots of drivers will get a duplicate and use that for any points they get, keep the origonal for handing into the company so they keep there job, but if they have a bump they are f"""d.

But if you can get any points taken off I personaly would, but by the sounds of things you got all the points pretty close to each other, so it might be worth while waiting till they are all due off and get it all done at once, costs you every time you send licence away to get points taken off,

Also Remember that points cost you to have them removed. However they get removed automatically(free) if you move
The DVLA DONT advertise this.
So if you happen to get chucked out for a few weeks & by law, have to change your address, to that of the relative that took you in.
Then as your other points expire .......move back

the points are on your licence for 4 yrs from the date of the offence (can be removed 4 yrs from date of offence)

an 3 yrs from date of conviction (classed as spent 3yrs after court case )


IE get caught 1/1/2000 go to court 1/7/2000 they can be removed from licence 1/1/2004 but don't count on top up after 1/7/2003

I had a disqualification on my license back in 2006 and after 3yrs I lost my paper counterpart so I paid £20 for a replacement and dvla removed my disqualification. (if I hadnt asked for a replacement then dvla wanted£7t on its own to remove it from my license but by applying for a replacement they removed it anyway)
