Workday at the woods Sunday 10th Feb...

Postby gregster on Mon Feb 04, 2013 5:12 pm

Hi Foggers

Please be advised that on Sun Feb 10th 2013 we will doing a Workday at the Woods, one of two to make a start clearing it up ready for 2013's fun offroadin starting with the meet on the 24th Feb.
The autumn and winter have bought a few trees down that need clearing, and I going down there later to see what damage has been done by the highwinds vs sodden ground over the last few days. We missed a couple of workdays at the end of 2012 which have kinda meant that we are starting 2013 playing catchup a bit..but its easily doable with your support guys.

We will meet at 10am at my workshop...if you dont know where it is I will send you directions before the day..

Please bring with you any tools that you have that may be useful for clearing trees, digging and lunch/drinks as nowhere very near to get grub when you have worked up an appetite. Tea/coffee will be provided.

Don't worry if you cant bring your fronty, we find somewhere to park the lesser cars if not 4x4's so you can still join in if you want to.

Probably not a good idea to bring dogs to the work days, I am just concerned about them running around with chainsaws going and 4x4's moving around,
and children must be kept on a tight leash and near parents at all times as we don't want any accidents.

Workdays will not be capped at the moment as loads to do, and we will be grafting as a team to get work done...this will involve some delegation of tasks within the team to ensure we are both productive and safe...
Use of chainsaws will be restricted to logging or pruning areas as instructed...I don't want to risk accidents with inexperienced members felling trees and anything we cut has to be considered so as to retain the character of the woods and to represent best productivity.
This is gonna be hard graft, I can be a bit of a slave driver

We have lots to do, the recent heavy rain and high winds have bought down a fair few trees and debris which will need clearing, so we have got our work cut out...plus it would be good if we get a chance to "freshen" a few holes while the ground is soft.

Please note this is NOT a playday, and although plenty of 4x4 driving/working will probably be involved during the day, we are there to work to get the site ready for the next meet...

Anyone "outworked" by Sally will be on toilet emptying duty at the next weekender!!!!

Your safety is paramount, I must insist that anyone attending ensures that they stay a safe distance from any felling or chainsaw operations or moving vehicles...
Falling debris can be unpredictable in its direction or distance of fall, so please be very careful...

Please add your name to the list if you are coming to help with this, and thanks for your support guys...will be good to see you all, and with a bit of grafting we can get the site looking great for the next meet!!!

A great excuse to get your truck muddy whilst helping get our site ready for another years fun.

See you soon

Sweet, good news Greg.
I don't think I can make the workday, but if it'll help, a contribution towards the diesel for the digger I can sort out.

I won't promise to attend because I want to push on and get the Doblo sorted. But if that doesn't happen then I might be a maybe.

Edit - Thats come out wrong - if the Doblo plan doesn't happen and duck doesn't give me any sh1t, then I will be along - really thinking of the green card for the 24th

I am a virgin on the forum!
Got the motor, been out twice, almost killed myself and the wife within 2 minutes of going off road on the first occasion, more success second time around.
I want to come to the workday on Sunday. Where is the list, or is this it?
Where is it, how do I get there, where do we meet? I live in Maidstone and believe the site is close.
If this gets posted, then I've just lost my virginity!

Just about thawed out...it was bleedin freezing up the woods, and the lack of "the brains of the outfit" meant I forgot the kettle

Big thanks to the workers today...most of the day today was spent supervising Lloyd in the digger, and sorting roots in the holes...and telling me no, when i wanted to go deeper!

2 newbies to the woods today, Alasdiar in his shogun booted A series coiler shorty...and Dean, one of the lads from up the workshop who is preparing for his fronty debut at the next meet.

The fronties were in the minority today...Andy had his disco down on his slicks, Rospicer was in his "daisy-duke" Jeep, and I came down in my Disco too
Lloyd came down in a 5 tonne digger though...which more than made up for our vehicle choices...

And the digger was the only thing coping with the mud...its was uber-slippy today...my disco has brand new muds, and it struggled...on the flat! Alasdair did remarkably on his BFG a/t's, squirming around up the top though, Rob's Bfg muds on his Jeep couldnt hack it either....and Andys disco on its road slicks sat out the workday in the clearing...and somehow made it out again, albiet very sideways!

Got loads done though...
Horseshoe is revamped and gonna be very challenging, the pond track is more interesting at the end, the undercut hill is steeper and wider now, the axle twister under the tree looks like the somme now, and will need a tank to get over it to start out! LOL...The end hole, is twice the size....and then some of the holes were reworked up the top and the tracks graded...

Next meet is gonna be very interesting....New diggings rules apply, with tricked up trucks only through the reworked bits first, to the point they get stuck and then we will tow them through, so the work isnt undone...Should be entertaining and a good spectacle, and these new bits should be great for months to come....
Care needs to be exercised as some reworks may not be apparant straight off...walk before you drive stuff, we dont want any more faceplants do we Mr retropedro!

Thanks everyone for your help...and cant wait to enjoy the rewards of our working/freezing at the meet in a fortnight and for years to come! 8) 8) 8)

IT was freezing, and I eventually just drove the truck top where they were digging and watched from inside  Was very hard work  and extremely slippery. I got nice and stuck on the slightest of inclunes with zero traction  with Andy's help we managed to use my terrible winch to get unstuck

Here are a few pics of the new holes Greg dug. Some are a lot bigger than you think. Its hard to get perspective when there's no fronty in them
Gutted I'l be missing the next picnic though as its going to be loads of fun trying to get used to 8)

My disco looks quite shiny as its being swallowed up by that hole!

That was by accident actually...it forgot we had extended the "axle twister under the tree" when I was doing an 18 point turn (steering lock is poo on a disco compared with a fronty!)
