Though I'll have to give it to you, Most french cars are shocking can't deny that..

Bobby the French crap we have now has never missed a beat in the 100k miles we have owned it, old 20hdi was the way forward
And we dont like Polo's

But yeah my parents had the 2.0hdi Picasso untill the worlds stupidest air intake (Located at road level, behind the fog lamp!! ) Stuffed them in what was a very shallow flood! They traded it in for the new 08 Picasso with the 1.6 and while they've been lucky with it so far, they regret not just putting an engine in the old one. It was better equipped, more comfortable, almost as light on diesel and much, much nicer on the road. The new one just feels like the main priority is cutting costs. It feels tinnier, the interior is low rent, the weight reduction makes it bumpy and thrashy on our awful roads it's almost unacceptable in the back! And rattles are now rife. A very silly move on englands most popular mpv.

Another one to consider. They do them in 1.2 1.4 1.9 tdi. All great on fuel
I think they look sporty, and they are low insurance.

It was to be picked up Wednesday after a service but we cant get to it until Friday so thats the day

Ratty, that car never gave a blip in near 100k and trips to Cornwall packed to the gills no problem and passed every MOT.
In my mind its the perfect family car if you have two or three kids

We had a diesel Ford focus new at work on a 55 plate ran it for 4 years and it was filled with unleaded twice and suffered no ill effect, my business partner was so impressed he brought it off us for his wife and she's still driving it I think it's now got about 130k on it and the only problem I know of is it needed a small turbo pipe replaced.

We also had a golf diesel same age 119k on it and we scrapped it 18 months ago it had to have a new ECU a set of diesel injectors and finally a new diesel pump the bills were mountain up I think we spent over 2k on it in the last year we had it

Both had full service histories at main dealer garages the golf cost more on every service and the problems started around 90k I know which I would buy in future and it won't be from zee Germans.

One other point the ford was also much better on fuel around 5 mpg on average

Don't be taken in with the old if only everything in life was as reliable as a golf.
Years ago I worked as a test driver for a well known petrol company testing fuel and additives we had a fleet of na golfs and I think they all had engine rebuilds around 110k we also ran a fleet of Peugeot 405 diesels the interiors got tatty quite early but the motors went on and on I think the highest mileage one we had was around 280k

Volvo, V70 T5 ex Plod Estate would be my choice of car, okay they're not the most economical motor on the road, but fun all the same....

Or theres the 9 Series Estate, last of the proper Volvo rear wheel drives and rumoured to have been designed (as were the 2 and 7 series) to take on a full grown elk and give the occupants a more than good chance of survival. Also had a designed in life of at least 21 years, at 300k miles they are just about run in.
