Frontera`s 1st day out

Well it was the Frontera`s first day out offroading yesterday.

Only got it at the start of the month and thought I would take it out.

Just took it to a place where the offroading isnt too bad as it was its first day and wasnt too sure how it would cope, (no offence to Frontera`s)

If Im honest I was more than pleased with how it coped,

Was just a local place to where I live, dews hill.

Been there a few times before, First time I went I went in my old Fourtrak Fieldman independant, that was a great old truck, but it was noisy, very basic etc etc, brilliant offroad, only stuck with that a few times but was down to stupidity in my part if Im honest

Then went in the Discovery, which was ok but too big and heavy, stuck in more than a few occasions with the Disco, again once or twice was stupidity.

My opinion on the Frontera compared to the Fourtrak and Disco ??????????

Again I will be honest, My Fourtrak never let me down when off road except for my stupidity. but would rather have my Frontera,
far more comfortable for every day use, bought the Frontera to get me over the winter mainly as the Alpina just dosnt like the snow and ice, so it wins hands down against the Fourtrak for every day use,
Against my Discovery, No comparison, would have my Frontera every day of the week. Discovery was a good old truck but prefer the Frontera.

I never did anything harsh in the Frontera yesterday. at first I was probarly a bit too carefull, then just thought well I will never know if I dont try, so just went as I normaly would, without the stupidity

Over all I was more than pleased with how it went,

In saying that Spike who I bought the truck off had the truck set up well with the lift etc, so that saved me doing all that sort of stuff.

Think its the first time Iv went out and not got stuck

Same cant be said for my mate though as he got stuck again. his cherekee was well and truly stuck.

But over all as Iv already said, more than pleased with the Frontera.

The best thing about underrated cars is the price
Quite a few of us here have surprised other makes with the basic 4x4 system the Frontera offers and to be honest it promotes a further challenge and skill factor

Well I was definetly surprised, I admit that,

When I drove it for the first time after I got it I thought sh*t this is slow, but in all fairness to the Frontera I had just jumped out my BM into the Frontera. going from over 200bhp to my Frontera.

After a few days it didnt feel as bad, actualy a good driving 4x4.

offroad did surprise me though as a few people said no dont go for a Frontera.

But Im happy with the Frontera anyway,

Give me a choice between the Frontera Disco and Fourtrak,

Frontera all day long.

I think you sussed out the "You can go fast but I can go anywhere" ethos

Yer some people have a bad time with a car and all makes suffer from this but most off road enthusiasts will slate the Frontera, but ask them have they owned one or even driven one let alone an offroad prepared Frontera, most will say no
So how can they judge

Well the go anywhere moto was what made me go for 4x4 in the first place, wasnt willing to get ride of the Bm though

So thats when I got the Fourtrak, mainly for the winter, got me into the offroading a bit. then the Disco, now the Frontera.

Its true people do slate them. as you said most probarly hav`nt even drove one, bet most havnt even parked their arse in one.

I was almost put off buying a Frontera if Im honest. but thought I will decide for myself.

One of my mates that I have a pint with in my local told me his brother inlaw had one and hated it, said when he went into bends and things like that it leaned etc, I thought well all 4x4`s lean going into bends etc, so whats the diffence, he couldnt answer me back and just said ok then your probarly right.

My mate who has got a Fourtrak also said to me to go for another Fourtrak, he thinks they are good old trucks and they are, told him I was thinking of the Frontera, he thought they were ok also but thought I would be better with the Fourtrak.

I call his Fourtrak bouncy bouncy. cause when your in it you are bouncing about everywhere,

Even he was surprised with the Frontera, no infact I will rephrase that, I think he was very surprised. His brother who goes with us was definetly surprised when he jumped in the Frontera at how much smoother it ws when we were offroad.

Even though he didnt say anything I think if my mate decides to sell the Fourtrak it will be a frontera he gets .

Never understodd the stick the Frontys get I love mine its a B sereis DTi, my uncle used to have an A series 2.8 that he addored!

Nice report cant wait untill i get a chance with mine offroad its only done a few gentle bits and peices so far!

Well in the 3 weeks that Iv owned mine Iv really liked it. far more than I thought I would have to be honest, as I said in previous posts above, I thought it was slow at first, but that was simply down to ignorance in my part as I was used to my Bm.

But now I just find its not actualy that slow, its quicker smoother than the Fourtrak and Discovery that I owned previously.

As for the offroad part, it wasnt anything to harsh, up and down a few bings, highest climb it had was probarly about 50 or 60 feet high, 1 or 2 were pretty steep certainly, Did it no problem, infact it did it with that much ease it put a big smile on my face.

I certainly wouldnt have a problem going out and trying some harder stuff now. I just have to remember and try not to be stupid going into parts I know I will get stuck in but that all part of the fun if you ask me

You would be amazed at how well they do at the harder stuff too mate....I have done some real crazy stuff with my fronty's and survived to tell the tale with no breakages...(other than bodywork! )
