witch is best on fuel

hi all i am after a lwb frontera now i need good on fuel and cheap would like a b series seen the v6 auto cheap and have seen a 2.2 to that needs head gasket both will cost me about 800 to be on road so witch would you go for?

best on fuel would be a y22dth but out of the 2 you listed i'd go for the v6 and fit lpg

I have a 2.2petrol and a 3.2 v6
Overall the 3.2 has averaged 28-29 mpg on a recent 3500 mile trip
The 2.2 has averaged 24.5 mpg over 45000 miles.
I have driven a 3.2 auto and manual and I prefer an auto even though mines manual
Even though the 2.2 is dog slow, it feels better balanced even though both trucks are set up the same

The way i always see fuel consumption is if your doing long journeys, motorways or dual carriageways go diesel.

however if your doing short journeys petrols the way to go

V6! Ive had both and found my v6 to be better on fuel cos i didnt need to thrash it when i got to a hill and there are lots n lots of hills round me mate .
