How much for a 2.8? - BOUGHT ONE!Wondering what a good price for a 2.8 with 160,000 on the clock would be?
Looking at a few to buy you see as been told good things about them. The one i've found has got new MOT till next year, no tax, 160,000 miles, clean inside and out. What would you say is a fair price on that? This is it by the way http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1995-Vauxhall ... 980wt_1344 Also found this one but man its ££££££ http://www.yatecarsales.co.uk/used_car_ ... e_6667.htm have bought the green one from yate car sales. Drove the price down and got a valet. haha Last edited by taylor6632 on Thu Aug 02, 2012 3:33 pm, edited 3 times in total.

Re: How much for a 2.8?As with most things an item is only worth what you're willing to pay for it

Re: How much for a 2.8?Depending on condition I would expect to be charged anything up to £1000 ... however I would never expect to pay much more than £6-700.
While the mileage is not so much an issue with the 2.8, the condition of the truck around it is the area I would be more concerned about. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: How much for a 2.8?Ditto,
The engine mileage (provided it's been looked after) shouldn't be a problem. This thread is good for a check list viewtopic.php?f=41&t=9301 Overall condition will be the biggest decider. Look out for worn drivers seat edges, rust to the front drivers side corner of the bonnet and sills near the rear wheel arches, leaky rear diff. Having had a new/recon alternator, turbo, and heater matrix fitted are all good signs on a truck with that mileage as it will save you having to do/supply them. Traffic lights in London are just rough guidelines
Re: How much for a 2.8?Ok so £995 is too much then.
Was planning to go into seeing it and saying i'll give you the asking price if you stick 6 months tax on it. Does come with brand new MOT but i'll check other info on it too. Truck Pictures:- viewtopic.php?f=46&t=52932 -:- viewtopic.php?f=46&t=50884

Re: How much for a 2.8?In line with the motor you've posted the ebay link to, reckon you are right to be looking at a LWB - reckon that will be alot more stable for towing than the SWB. Pulling power will be the same.
As there seem to more 2.8 LWBs' around than 2.8 SWBs' reckon you could pick up a LWB with about 120k on the clock in the region of £700.

Re: How much for a 2.8?i was lookin at that earlier and didnt think the overall condition looked too bad. intrigued to know what was wrong
Re: How much for a 2.8?he said the interior was good but the was rust all over the doors, sills, bonnet and boot. I was confused too as the photos do not show it, but he said the yard looks like a scrap yard as well so if they're going to MOT it, it might be "passed" but will it be ok? bit sad as need a truck soon!

Re: How much for a 2.8?Wow, as Ady says, it doesn't look anything like as bad in the pictures. Shame, I guess...
As for the one in Yate, definitely very overpriced. Jim...

Re: How much for a 2.8?That looks to be in a similar condition to the one I picked up 9 months ago (from a scrap yard) but I only gave £700 for mine, with 12 months MOT
Re: How much for a 2.8?To be honest a little bit of rust is common on the fronteras especialy on the sills and bonnet. The bonnet is an easy fix grind of the rust then use metal filler and paint i had to do that on my sport i used hammerite and just gave it a black band right across looked like a bonnet guard .sill easy to fix if its just the outer case of cutting out the old and welding in fresh sheet metal and paint . You will find most A series have or had same problems so i would be hasty to walk away a bit of surface rust is easy to sand down and repaint halfords will do a colour match spray can for under £ 20.
Looking at the picture i can see surface rust on the bonnet bit of bubbling its not that big a job, can see some rust spots if the metal is solid be and the rest of the motor is fine daft to walk away 1989 Isuzu Trooper 2.6 (3.1 conversion )

Re: How much for a 2.8?get what you're saying but there was bubbles on pretty much every panel and for a grand i feel i can find a better one. 160,000 on the clock with no history or help from the sellers so all seemed a bit rubbish to me. Car had been sat for a while as well as the paintwork was no longer blue, it was starting to green and mouldy. hahaha.

Re: How much for a 2.8?You can change an engine or a g/box etc. but if the body is ffffd it's not worth a carrot.
If you need something done quickly just ask a busy woman then get the f"k out of her way.
Re: How much for a 2.8?That one has been up for sale for some time now, in the order of months rather than weeks, it has also dropped in price by some 2/300 quid IIRC. TBH, if your handy with a bag of spanners it might be worth going over it VERY closely looking at the rusty panels and the underneath to see if the rust is surface dust or more serious rot. Then if it looks half decent chuck 400 quid at it to drive away (you never know, they may be fed up tripping over the thing) and deal with the MOT yourself.
If all else fails, you have a half decent chance at getting the 400 back by breaking it. This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been

Re: How much for a 2.8?you on about the light blue one in poole or the dark green one in bristol? that bristol one is mental at £1289 with 130,00 miles and some mot, no tax. Going to view it tomorrow with the mindset of £800. But on their website it says it comes with a 2 year warrantee so £1000 wouldn't be bad for it.

Re: How much for a 2.8?Your paying for the warrenty in the price unless its a miss print. Personally I would have them take the warrenty off the truck simply because that due to its age the warrenty wont be worth the paper its written on and wouldn't cover a thing on it. Warrenties at best cover for a vehicle upto 5years old, if its a trader then he must supply I believe by law a min of 30days warrenty on used vehicles. taking that into account I would say your looking at £600 - £700 motor £1000 forecourt price withougjt haggling.
