Re: LWB vs SWBCannot help you next Saturday buddy ... Fudges wedding.
Might be able to do something Sunday though. Just remember to NEVER turn up in a 4x4 ... go in a car and then you can tut and whistle about the state she is in. Then look concerned that she has been off road quite a bit to put her in that state. Its a buyers market out there buddy. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771

Re: LWB vs SWBAnswering the question on running the 2.8 on veg oil
I run mine on professionally processed bio diesel, have been tempted to run on veg but being a direct injection engine this is not advisable. Veg oil (either new or used) will gum up the rings on a direct injection engine especially if it is used for short journeys, stop start, long periods of idling etc. The 3.1 is an indirect injection engine and while not immune to this problem they do stand less of a chance as the veg oil is is not squirted straight at the piston as in a 2.8 but heated in a small chamber in the cylinder head before igniting Have used Bio exclusively in my 2.8 for best part of 2 years, and experienced no FIP issues, engine had done in the region of 180,000 mile before being removed last month as it had developed a missfire and knocking after the turbo expired Also used Bio in my Freelander which has the same pump (Bosch VP) and injector with needle lift sensor as fitted to the Frontera 2.5, covered around 10,000 miles again with no issues On the topic of SWB v's LWB, it depends on what your going to do with it, love my LWB to bits but there are times when I wish I had the compactness of a SWB, usually when playing in wooded area's where the bulk of the LWB really does get in the way Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: LWB vs SWB That is possibly the best review of alternative fuels for the 2.8 and 3.1 I have ever heard yaki. Well done. Re: LWB vs SWBAre you able to test drive an lwb and a swb both on and off road??
I have only had lwb's which I need for putiing work and tools in,but I initally bought one as a more butch estate car and then discovered the 4x4 teritory I had wandered into. I love the shape of the a series lwb's and the load capacity and how big they are and love being on the road in one. I have made some simple sheet steel lockers in the back over the wheel arches to keep tools and other stuff in and these seem to be working well. I have slept several hours in the back when late driving back from Hereford as I can just stretch out flat in the back.I regularly put the passenger seat right back flat after taking the rear seat cushions out and this means I can take long things sticking out the back window(left open) right down into the front footwell. I had not been in a swb until about two weeks ago at one of gregsters and sal,s woods days. I got taken out in a 2.8 swb by wilberforce and then in a 2.4. lwb by gregster. Tbh I have not been as interested in swbs, up until that point and I then realised how much fun off road they are. It felt as though it followed every bit of the surface it was going over. I was then taken around in a lwb 2.4.I was impressed at how it got around the course as well. I liked both experiences but in that terrain if I was asked to make a choice I think that I preferred the swb. I came away thinking that if I was to go offroad more often I would have to get one as a play vehicle. I did feel slightly seasick afterwards as both trips happened one after another Hope this helps and dosen't confuse. Hope this helps

I went to see this truck this evening. Its spotless, not even a stone chip anywhere. Its literally showroom! ![]() My 2.8 shorty - now sold, and comments here My old dti - now sold "Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "WOW --- What a Ride!"
