Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceFreaky, I was looking at them tonight
I pretty much had a turbo in bits like that and sent the parts to a member on the promise that if he stuck it together and it worked he could pay me I see a second hand turbo being more of a gamble to be honest Ste

Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceI was also looking at them a week ago and thinking must remember they are available lol
Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceThats what I thought, they are about the same money as a S/H turbo and as with most S/H stuff its always a gamble, however, the Chinese do not have the best reputation for quality parts so was a little concerned as to how long it would last
I have sold 2 turbo's ages ago as funds were tight and needed the cash, really wish I had kept them now, always useful to have a spare Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one

Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceChris - I've got my original sitting on the front seat of the Fronty - if you want me to take any pics and post for comparison reasons, let me know and I'll duly oblige. Looking at the pics, the gaskets look the right shape and from memory, that's £15-20ish worth in it's own.
Have you asked the seller in what parts of the globe they have sold any of these turbos? If they come back with positive info, then try and find a forum in the part of the world or sort of motor and try and get some feedback as to quality.

Your motor's been sat up the workshop since Christmas, so it's not like the turbo's actually been used Jim...

Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceYaki ... just remember that Vauxhall fitted the slightly more powerful 3.1 (4JG2) turbo to the Frontera 2.8. Only just got a chance to see the eblag listing (as I cannot eblag at work).

Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceI would take the turbo you are going to try to fix and see if you are able to separate it before I ordered a core line that. My old one was seized into one part. Impossible to separate without breaking it. Would have been a pity if I already had ordered a core.
Other than that I have ordered two of those China turbos. Both of them had pretty worn boxes when they arrived, but the units themselves were not damaged. A complete turbo can take some beating, I would be a bit more conserned towards how a core with exposed turbines would deal with a rough shipping. Problem for me was the threads for the oil return pipe was not deep enough, bolt bottomed out and a part of the casting broke off. The second I'm still running after 6000 km and with no problems. Just watch those threads!
Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceThanks for the info, certainly sounds promising, good point about being able to strip it, will need to check and will watch out for the threads.
I might have found a S/H one local to me, guy is checking tomorrow, he only wants £60- and its an instant fix so will probably go with that and order a Chinese one as a backup. How long did the shipping take? Just had some Cree reversing bulbs arrive from China and they took 4 weeks Soon to be without a Frontera after 10 years of owning one
Re: New Turbo - Would You Take A ChanceYes, the shipping can take a while.
I'm used to it though
