Advice on 2 vehicles plz

Not sure if posted in correct forum so my apologies if i have not

Morning folks ,

Am away out just shortly to take a look at a 4x4’s and as usual am looking for a bit of advice. The old Fronti is up for its Mot next month and so far requires a bush , Mid Section exhaust which is around £80 - £110 does anyone know anywhere cheaper ? Thirdly I need a bit of fuel pipe which runs along the runner board driver side replaced im thinking its going to cost around the £300 - £400 to put it threw so have sourced the following jeeps below all feed back welcomed
First is a Fronti Sport Rs 2.2dti Manual 1999 with 91,000 miles on the Clock. No mention of service history but has had a service recently. MOT till April 2013 priced at £1300 ONO how does that sound and what should I be looking out for when inspecting it ??
Second choice is the Jeep Cherokee 60TH Anniversary 2001 Y Reg with 110K on the clock. Has all usual extras ie Heated Seats , Electric W/M , Electric Seats, Leather etc a lot of kit .Asking price is £1400 from a garage. Mot till May 2013 . 3 owner vehicle with service history not all. Cousin is going to look at this for me as its down the road.
Just don’t want to go spending the money I did with my last Fronti so need something reliable and no problematic . Would appreciate all feedback as am running out of time .
Did contemplate another 2.2 petrol B series but this ttime get the Water pump , timing belt , Thermostat etc all replaced to see if that would prevent the H/G going again but not sure if that would prevent the same happening ??

hi the jeep is a lot of truck for the money i know ive had several cherokees/grand cherokees the deisel is very expensive to repair if it gos wrong check its not a vm enginge as they tend to throw the push rods and sound like they have droped a con rod they are prone for chewing the rear diff if the oil modifyer is not put in genuine mopar stuff is about £20 for 150 mils the proper oil is about £12 a litre so not a cheap service area so it never tends to get done after 3-5 years old i have replaced a few £150-£250 delivered the auto box is the same if the filter is not changed and the correct oil put in at regular intervils it will burn out bands 1 and 2 and will over rev to change gear or slip like your on ice gear change should be around 1800 revs and kick donw should be smooth and no slips so if the oil is blackish or smells burnt i would be a bit concerned especally if they is a lack of oil in it these are around £250-£350 delivered and are a b~#*h to change the 2.5 petrol sport is thirsty just like the 4 litre which is the main model i went for the around 20mpg if driven sensibley are 14-17ish dependent on sevrice its had done they are a comfortable nice ride if its be looked after with a lot of ppwer if you get the high output its around 200bhp not the standard 175ish bhp now ive had 3 frontys 1 2.0i a series and 2 2.2 petrol b series the only thing ive noticed as a prone or regular faults are the exhaust manifolds crack on the petrol models b series but i have not had a deisel one yet but some one will tel you the mian faults they suffer from put the only reason i would stray from my b series swb is to buy a lwb b series the only thing i can say about the frontera deisel is i have had to deal with the fathers 2.5td a series facelift is it was a vm deisel dropped a rod on 2 and 3 cheap oil and lack of oil changes is the usual cause they seem cheaper to repair and of cause they is this site which everyone will help you on with any problem and piont you in the right direction for parts or a man who can help hope this helps you

Thanks for all that info appreciate it. Query how would I know of its not a VM engine ? U personally think being on a tight budget I should stay clear of the Cherokee Sport Diesel ?

it should say vm on the top its got 4 seperate heads to it so if it has droped a rod you need to take al 4 heads of to replace a single head gasket and a single hydrolic tappet/follower so a pain of a job i cant remember when they started to change the enginges to a more reliable engine but your away from the troublesome auto box with a diesel im trying to up load a pic of the engine for you but cant

you know the dti suffers with fuel pump failure & at 90k id say thats pretty much the prime time they seem to go so a few questions would need to be asked about any previous replacement, an exchange is approx £500 i believe. obviously being a b series check the dash board instruments etc
as for getting another 2.2 petrol if the h/g hasnt been changed then i dont think changing the stat water pump etc will stop it going, its not if but when with them mine only had 56k with pretty good history when it went, again factor in £500 for a garage to change it.

my sister has just bought a cherokee jeep and it has been nothing but trouble! seem to go wrong quite a lot! it has been in the garage for 5 weeks now they cant figure out why it wont start!

Never had any experience of the Cherokee but know couple of people that have had them, both of which never had any major problems.

Evening folks was wanting to know of anyone on here who has a B series 2.2 diesel Auto and what they think of them as am looking at one but I normally drive manuals. Fronti won't be used for towing or Offroading just on road.
