I wouldn't mind riding shotgun with someone too. That way I can take the video camera and do some filming :D

Great the lists are growing nicely, six in a group is max. It's a long day already and big groups tend to travel slowly, We can always have more groups.

I got a spare seat in "Smoking" for a co-pilot who wants to participate in the days events..... That'll be navigating (with the MM so I don't have to take my eyes off the road and I got someone to blame when I go left instead of right), Comms/Ops (Advising followers of road/lane hazards and to aplogise for me when we have to turn around after going the wrong way) and you would be "point" on Reconn (that'll be gate bitch then). But best of all we get to make the decisions when we stop for a brew (free tea or coffe if you bring a cup) and you aren't eating trail dust......Any takers, probably think Rob (second group leader) will need a co-pilot as well, Pete will have his lad with him, don't know about Jim (Wilberforce).

Regards

Stuart

Actually Stuart, your offer looks more practicle at the moment...

  • Being lead (and hopefully you've reccy'd the route), you be able to identify suitable photo opportunity points.
  • Being lead, I could (carefully) open gates and then compose for photos, getting all participants as they come though (difficult if running later in the convoy).
  • Can concentrate on photos, leaving the last vehicle to close the gate.
  • Am profficient with MM.
  • Can read an OS map upside down.
  • Do not get travel sick.
  • Motorsports Association orthorised (safety & Medical) radio operator.
  • Ex stage rally navigator (not international timing though, please).

Those of you wanting a copy of the MM overlay please pm me you email addy and I'll do my best to get a copy off to you by the end of next week ( only got MM on my IPAQ at the moment). Failing that we can get together on the Friday evening/night and manually input the route on to your chosen devise.

I'm a little concerned about the paint peeling aspect of these lanes, I don't mind scratches like last years ones but these sound a bit tight.

Re: Laning on the Saturday

Postby Fatbaz on Tue Apr 24, 2012 11:18 pm

Hi All,

Got the MM working and have sent overlays to those that requested a copy and sent me an Email addy (Jim you need to send me your email address so I can send you a copy). If I've missed anyone send me a reminder with your email address included in the PM and I'll try and oblige.

The three groups now have a max of 6 trucks each, if anyone else wants to go along we'll start a new group and shuffle people about to even up the group sizes (We got plenty of potential leaders). To those of you that have dropped out of the laning for fear of scratching; There is only 2 lanes that are likely to scratch your car and these you can drive around so you don't have to miss out on the whole day.

The route is 144 kms or 90 miles which will take 7 or 8 hours so will be a long day. It is with this in mind that I ask that we aim to leave the sanctity of Sibbertoft no later than 9.15 (9.30 at the very latest), it’ll take us about half an hour to get to the start point and a half hour back hich makes it a nine/ten hour day in total.
I ask that all the potential laners have a get together Friday evening about 9ish at the marque to run through the days agenda and groups, thus eliminating the faffing about on Saturday morning (to round you all up on my own is a challenge I don’t relish so please turn up of your own accord).

Regards

Stuart :D
