Re: MK1 RS000And they all produced good rally variants .. okay Capri didnt but I reckon a serious fettle and an engine relocation (as allowed in the early 80's) would sort that

Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.The ascona 400 was just so horny....
RWD is just the nuts... Its just that everything I own seems to go up in price stupidly a few years after I get rid! In addition to my Fords and Vauxhalls, my starlets, my corrola gt's (rwd ae86 jobbies), e30 M3, Delta Hf Intergrale, strada abarth, 3 door cossie...all were big bucks a few years after I sold em! ![]() Lucky I have learned from this...and got into Fronteras... I can sell these with confidence knowing that I wont get bitten again! Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.OMG you just reminded me of a ford showroom i visited years ago. I went spacifically to view the Brookland Capri..Hmmm very nice motor..Until i sat in it or attempted to should i say..I was too tall for the damm thing coz my head stuck out the sunroof even with seats at it's lowest point..Back then i was 6'4'' but now 6'2-3/4''..Hmmm.
Had the Mk2 RS' but have to admit i much prefer the mk2 flat fronted version because the twin headlight (droopsnoop) setup looked to plasticy for my liking .. Wish i sodding kept it coz i would be well minted now going on wot they have been advertised for.
Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.Agree there kev...flat fronted rs2000's were much 'arder...especially with some 2up 2downs and 4 cibie super oscars.
but viva's hc firenzas looked much better with the droopsnoot front though. Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.HS Chevette & the Lotus Sunbeam were on my list also ..The Hs Chevette was a bit of an unkown quantity but proved it had all it required when it came to simplicity and was very rugged and a great looking on road rally car in truth...Ahhh those were the days ehh
Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.The firenza was a Viva HC mate...

Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.Wow what a trip down memory lane.
Don't get too excited though lads I had a chance to drive a Mk1 Lotus Cortina a few years back, oh how I wanted one for years. Got behind the wheel started it up fantastic, pulled away, drive it like you stole it the owner said it can take it again fantastic, the engine was lumpy on tickover but when on full chat fantastic, then I got to the first corner and the bl**dy brakes were non existent I nearly sh4t my pants slowed down after that and returned to the pits. Like all dead relatives remember them as they were and dream about driving them along twisty A and B roads on long hot summer nights but for all thats holy leave it at that in reality they are slow, noisy, unreliable money pits with the brakes and suspension made out of plasticine, they will bu99er up your back kidneys and all internal organs and the only comfortable trip will be driving back home in the cab of the AA wagon with the car on the back the only thing still working will be the hazard warning lights that's if the battery hasn't gone flat lol. Ohhh !!! wait a minute we all drive Frontera's so were used to all the above, so carry on as normal lads I would prefer a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy.
Seek not excess, God hates he who roams !

Re: MK1 RS000 and The vintage working mans car.A mate sold one like that John, he lives in St Helens, he got £900 for it from ebay, a lad in Ireland bought it and had it picked up on a car transporter, it was a great base for a project, in fact it needed tiding rather than restoring.
It would have been worth a few grand with very little effort, race spec too Ste
