Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????Cheapest way is 2" spring spacers mate n turn the torsion bars 8 turns, only takes a couple of hours on a ramp!

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????The body lift isnt really worth doin bud as it dont give you any advantages off road, no extra clearance, only lets you put bigger tyres on. The sus lift however gives you both!! The spring spacers are usually on ebay although you could make them out of a couple of bits of 5" pipe @ 50mm and couple of bits of 4" @ 25mm, a couple of discs of 5mm steel to weld inbetween and bobs your uncle! Other than that you could just swop the rear springs!

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????Beg to differ a bit with you there Dannyboy sorry. A suspension lift will just allow the rear wheel a bit more down travel and articulation, it doesnt give you any more ground clearance as the lowest point on the truck is the rear diff. The only way this can be raised is to put bigger tyres on thus raising the rear axle and diff by half the increase in tyre diameter. A body lift facilitates the fitting of bigger tyres.

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????So am i right that a sus lift is best? or am i wrong and infact people would advise a body lift?? Anyone!? SUS LIFT........... | BODY LIFT........... IF ITS NOT BROKE, YOUR NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH!!

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????I'm not saying you are totally wrong buddy or trying to shoot you down. Yes the suspension lift will lift the chassis and everything above it and does have its advantages with regards to down travel on the rears. winding the torsion bars up does little more than making it look meaty, infact it mearly puts the torsion springs under more pressure, reducing articulation. I know what I mean in my head but have trouble putting it into text. Gregster did explain it to me and it made sense.
Saying that, all the clearance from the chassis and above is left irrelavent if the diff is not lifted because if the diff is grounded, the chassis can be 10ft in the air and still not make a difference. This is purely my opinion and speaking from experience of doing a sus lift first and finding no real benefit apart from making my truck look cool. I only felt the difference when I raised the body, trimmed the arches, and fitted bigger boots to raise the rear diff. Apologies if I sounded like i was havin a go ![]() SIZE DOES MATTER!! Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????Dont worry pal i wasnt bein funny or owt, i just found the opposite thats all. I did the body lift n arch trim first and stuck big tyres on with my v6 only to smash the middle bash plate off n wrapped it round the prop, the sus lift allowed bigger tyres n no bashing next, still did arch mod tho, so not done body lift on last 2 n alls bin good

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????Just to throw another view in the mix, I have never done a body lift simply to keep the centre of gravity lower, I can safely say the lack of body lift has never hampered me at all, plus in my view any tyre bigger than 32" is asking for trouble, especially on a B series.

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????1 other thing about the sus lift is that it also rasies the bit that hangs below the chasis, THE TANK, which is one of the main things that I found was where I ground out before doing the lifts.
2nd thing about a sus lift is that the ammount of work is less than a body lift, but got to think about the shockers as well as springs / spacers. Whilst the body lift on the B series was easy to do, and only £55 its the final bit of getting the bumpers back on looking straight as they are attached to the chassis and the body that I found the hardest bit and took longer than the lift its selft. Here is a thread on here about when I did mine. http://fronteraowners.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24162&hilit=+lift Trev Last edited by country_Est on Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: Virgin can anyone tell me how to do it ??????Other than a small benefit in approach and departure angle and bigger tyres there is no other real benefit of a body lift as the chassis rails are the only as high as a suspension lift has taken them.
A suspension lift (more so with just longer coils rather than spacers) will give the rear axle better articulation thus helping traction for the rear wheels but dont go too high on the front as lower on IFS (Independent Front Suspension) will be a lot better off road than an IFS with its suspension raised to the limits and hopping along the bumps as there is no flex, and you increase the risk of bust CV joints and diffs and other suspension wear for no real benefit other than looking good.
