ServiceAnyone know where i can get a good 4x4 service around Bristol? Want all the transmission oils etc changed but don't want to pay an arm and leg for it. (or someone on here could earn some money to do it? hahaha)

Re: ServiceTo be honest, it isn't really that difficult to do yourself...
Especially if you have something like this: Oil suction gun 10l of engine oil (for the engine, box and transfer case), 5l of gear oil (front and rear diffs) or just 2l for the rear alone, new oil filter and something to collect the waste oil in. The drain and fill plugs are all pretty easy to access, and if you give the car a quick spin to warm up, can be done in a couple of hours. Jim...

Re: ServiceIf you use the Oil Suction Gun have plenty of old rag to stop oil running down your sleeve, it squirts out of the air bleed hole instead of the into the gearbox!
Well it did with mine the first time I used it, now it's in the rubbish bin.
Re: ServiceI have used the oil suction method for years.
Lay a tarp from the pound shop or cheap in Asda/Tesco on the floor and some cheap engine oil suck and squirt, some may dribble from the hosepipe on the gun when going between gearbox and oil tub but just keep a rag handy. Fill until the oil starts to trickle out the filler and your done, easy as that. Do make sure your on level ground so you dont over fill as it will start to leak out the rear of the gearbox at the prop shaft. Then tighten the gearbox filler nut but dont over tighten as you will crack the housing. Ste

Re: ServiceRule of thumb with ALL oil changes, tranny or axles...is to always undo the FILL plug first, BEFORE draining....
If you drain and then find you cant get the fill plug undone then you are snookered with a dead car! ![]() Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
