worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsi have just been offered a landy series 3 2.5 diesel swb on a w reg. 2 small problems one its in Kent the other is it failed its mot for a rotten chassis so the current owner stripped it down and bought a new chassis for it and was going to rebuild it as a project with his kid. they never got round to rebuilding it and he needs the space in his garage. it was a good runner before stripping just the old chassis was rotten.
so my question is how long would it take to normally rebuild one of these things from ground up as completely in bits and is it worth doing or would i be better of just selling the parts as either a project or individual. as need to know if its worth covering the diesel on a lorry to go fetch it i know its landy but you guys are the only one i know who be crazy as i am to consider doing a full rebuild from buckets of bolts and parts cheers

Re: worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsHow long has it been stripped? The engine could be goosed if it has been lying for ages mate.

Re: worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsDon't know if it's any help but a mate of mine did a chassis replacement on his LR90 at the same time converting from a 2.5NA to a 300tdi, took him a month of evenings and weekends, but he stripped it and knew where everthing had to go.
Regards Stuart Remember, keep the greasy side down!
Re: worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsits been sat in a heated garage on the side of a large country house as they have an x5 and Maserati the 4 door ugly one so i know it will have been kept in good conditions. as the others are his pride and joy i think his wife is after a convertible for the summer but this is parked in the only spare spot lol
in regards to the time frames like you say your mate took his apart so had a good idea what goes where, i am waiting on pics to see just how far he has stripped it as one persons buckets of bolts might just be where they have stripped the body off the chassis and its still a rolling one with a new one so swapping the bits over would be simpler but he doesn't go back down till the weekend so i will have to wait till next week to see what the state of play is. still umming and arring over it as still playing with my fronty and not sure the wife would be happy another project turning up lol. might just sell it on for him and take a commission for handing the sale when i see what the pics if it looks like to much work cheers

Re: worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsThe series landrovers are just big mechano sets. I don't think you could go to far wrong. I believe haynes even have a "restoration" manual for them.
If the chassis is good then the only other real headache you could face is a rotted bulkhead. Everything is possible until you stop to think about it.

Re: worlds biggest bucket of bolts and spare partsthe guys been in the states all last week i though he was going to be in notts at work monday but i found out he is back tomorrow so going to pop and see him and see f he had remembered to take the pic if not ill get them taken this weekend.
was thinking of slaping a spare v6 in from a fronty but the wife made me get rid of all my spares so she could start using the shed as a shed again not a tool box so looking at possibly getting a v8 from a v8 to slap in it but might just leave it as a 2.5 diesel and wang it out the door. dont know as seen some nice examples so might keep it as a second car for when this one blows up next lol cheers
