banter general discussions etc

Hi all. I'm going to replace my well worn freelander and I quite fancy a Frontera. I'm going to look at a 2003 2.2dti with 70,000 miles on it. I just wondered if there's any particular problems or weak points I should look out for. Any advice gratefully accepted. Thanks in advance.

Probably a good idea to ask if the fuel pump (HP pump) has been changed or reconditioned. They are the weak point on the 2.2 diesels and on 2001 reg on-wards it will cost you in the region of 1200 to replace Look for rust in the rear door sill sections. Also remember the frontera's 4WD is not permanent. There is a button to switch to 4 high but dont use it on grippy surfaces. The freelander is permanent (well if the prop is still fitted ) Overall the frontera is a much better 4x4, good luck with your search

A recent pump change is a big bonus. But if it doesn't run right in any shape or form, walk away!

Thanks for the replies. As regards the pump, are there any signs of imminent failure or is it just something that happens suddenly?

Didn't buy it. Obvious signs of accident damage on nearside and the gearbox was very "notchy". Also the clutch juddered and didn't bite till near the top of the pedal travel. Thanks for the replies. I'll keep looking!

Clutch pedal at the top is normal, judder is not. Good decision to walk away.
