crazy garage pricing

need front pads changing and couldn't really be bothered to jack up truck etc so thought, can't be much over £50 at garage but a couple i rang asked for well over £100. Its mental, so i just picked up a set of genuine vauxhall ones for £22 incl P&P. I just thought its a large amount they're charging for a simple job really.

Garage we use at work charged £22 labour to replace 2 brake bulbs and 1 reg plate bulb.

they love to screw you over on labour, usually around £50-75 an hour

There was an advert on my local radio station earlier from vauxhall saying they would change any brake pads for £100. Just front or rear, to have both £200. I'll do it for £150.

thats the reason i bought a tool kit and became fluent in Haynese.

Got quoted £200 for a clutch change on a 1.6 cavalier back in 2006, i'd only paid £150 for the car! I don't begrudge people earning a living, but if the company i drive for charged a passenger £60 for an hours bus ride i can see them running out of passengers very quickly.

It is very fustrating, but they are not all as bad as each other. Today I had my CV joint changed for £30 for the labour. Now that was a bargain!

MAYBE...just maybe, we could start of a section where great garages with fair prices and good service can be listed with their location? Helps out us and keeps the smaller garages going as i've found they are usually the best price and best customer service but its all word of mouth the find them.

well i charge £30 an hour so if everything was free you would of been £15 but would probley of taken me 4 hours to get to you but ye main dealers in stoke are from £60-£90 an hour
