Re: Cavaliers at Queensferry car auctionsThey (Shell) had an array of older cars which were used for (new) oil and I think fuel testing and Queensferry Auctions was where all their old stock ended up. A few years back they'd send a memo round site to say what cars were going to auction and the date/time of said auction.
They wouldn't release anything to employees and it all had to go under the hammer. At one time (years and years back) you used to see about four or five Polos going up and down the M53 all day long with little roof spoilers, always wondered what they were doing and that again was oil and fuel testing. Every now and then they'd strip the engines down to see how they got on and record any wear or damage. That part of Shell is now doomed (unfortunately) since they sold the refinery next door and I believe they're concentrating the testing facilities in other plants (already in the portfolio) elsewhere in Europe. The fuels for the Ferrari F1 team were tested and blended here before being delivered to Maranello by the way
