Well I took the new 2.8 swb for its first MOT in 2 years today and it didnt go quite as well as I'd hoped but not altogether the end of the world. They had to abandon the test when the tester slipped n nearly broke his neck in the puddle of diesel that was dripping from the exhaust. fuel lines are rotten from the pump to roughly under the driver seat Other things he failed it on before he abandoned are top n bottom ball joint gaiters boths sides split front drop links split drivers sill perished So hopes of doing any laning in the near future are on hold but hopefully will be all ready for the anual meet

new mots for you bud no play in ball jionts just rubber split and it fails if your doing fuel lines i would go for the plastic pipe from vauxhall never rusts again and bends into place better

Bad luck there matey, but looking on the bright side it's all pretty simple stuff to fix. Probably a weekends work if your doing it sat on the drive or a long days worth in the garage. Considering just what needs to come undone to do the lower ball joints I think I would be tempted to replace the outer CV gaiters on the front drive shafts and the hub seal while I had it all apart. Also, as already mentioned, plastic pipe for the fuel lines rather than metal, easier to fit in place, joints are also easier to do and they wont rust again. How bads the sill? Not sure if you get repair sills for these things that just go over the grot, don't like them personelly, always seems a bit bodgy to me and it often results in the rot being sealed up inside to happily carry on rotting through the inner sill as well but they can be a good source for a patch or two thats already 'bashed' into shape. Always cut the grot out and zip in new bits if possible, if you can weld of course If not then learn and spend the dosh you would have spent on some back street garage doing the job on a half decent mig setup and get cooking.... It will pay for itself pretty quick if you drive old cars Good luck.

This posting may have been helpfull, on the other hand probably not... Either way, I may have had drink when posting it in which case it's probably not as helpfull as it could have been Work safe, and remember all technical problems can be resolved with a hammer, the trick is knowing where to hit it and how big a hammer to use (I often find it may also help to have a spare bit in the shed to replace the bit you have just mullered ) Work in Progress (or not as the case may be) I give you....
