Hi, I've always wanted to do a type of Cannonball Run or Gumball 3000 Rally but in order to do one you need a supercar to drive and a five figure sum to register. This year my friend and I are entering a run called the 'Screwball Rally' which is for cars that are worth/or look like £750 or less and its all for charity! It's over 5 days going from Dover to France to Italy and back again (around 2000 miles in 5 days). Here's the link to their website if anyone's interested http://www.screwballrally.co.uk/index.htmlI'm entering my 1994 Frontera Sport and was wondering if anyone else was up for it? 5 days of driving, camping, drinking and larking about all for charity. Could be good laugh if we had a group of Frontera's? Anyway thought I would let you guys know. Cheers

Remember seeing a Fronty on ebay last year - believe red and yellow - that had been 'themed' up used on a similar event. Fella down the road as bought an old funeral limo and is turning it into a Titantic replica for a sponsored 'whacky' race event to Prague later this coming summer.
Best of luck for your planned run

I've been speaking to some guys on their forum and they took 450 euros and a credit card incase of breakdowns and that was it. They didn't go mad and book into hotels they stayed with everyone else on the camp site, drank beer and ate BBQ food. If a 3 wheeler and an Alfa can make it, i'm sure the old snow bus can Where thinking about removing the rear seats for the tent etc and i'll give it a good service and change of cam belt before I go. The Screwballers also have a Facebook page, you will have to check it out to see if any of the cars you mentioned above are featured?

Na nowhere near that figure! £100 motor from an auction if needs be, just aslong as its got MOT & TAX. I'm told some Screwballers buy from an auction and if it blows up they just leave them in Europe and jump in with someone else to get home. I recon costs in the region of: £350 ish fuel £175 Registration Fee (includes camping etc, see their website) £70 Ferry Money for food (sandwiches, BBQ or McDonalds) Tents, gas stove etc (e already have) European cover for recovery? Insurance upgrade to Europe for a week? That's about it really. And Beer from Calais !!!!! Oh and to enter all your team has to do is raise £250 for a charity.

Excellent Have a look at their website and Facebook pages, there are excellent pictures of 'Help for Heros' cars and limos being used for the rally to gather sponsorship. Including a tartan vauxhall limo!

You could sell magnetic stickers from Vista Print (Just email them or better phone them and you'll probably get ones folks can write on just for the postage.) locally to put on the wagon as in local people getting to be part of it and have their name on it. Like the bloke that sold pixels. Get a local Pay and Play to give you a day out to raffle and the local Motor Factor will probably stump up for a prize or two and the Oil Change if you ask around and flutter your eyelashes. To them it is good cheap local publicity and a local hotel may give you a send off for the press. If they are part of an international chain and you are polite you could even get a hotel and some Champers at the other end. I've done it for a wee Scottish band who couldn't afford to go to the finals of a "Talent Contest" in London and Thistle Hotels gave us a champagne send off and a suite in central London for the weekend and a major Scottish hire company supplied a minibus all we had to do was put diesel in it. If you don't ask.....and clearly explain your aims ...you don't get. It only took me an afternoon on the phone. (Remember those days?)
If you need something done quickly just ask a busy woman then get the f"k out of her way.

This is just a couple of guys with a Limited Company who want you to bust a gut for charity if you just give them some money so they can tell you where to be every night. Add in the "just buy a banger and if it goes wrong leave it" and I start to wonder. Any opinions?

Yeah it may be a couple of guys making a living from the registration fees but reading some of the story's from the Screwballers forum it sounds like they have a right good laugh for 5 days. I've always wanted to enter the Gumball 3000 with my every day SRT Chrysler but when I looked at their registration fee it was in the thousands! I need Mr Lottery to help enter that one. So this was the next best idea and the money raised goes to my charity of choice.

Quite interested in this, did the Landy Rally last year it was 3000 miles over 9 days it was supposed to be an off road 4x4 type rally but we did about 200 miles maximum off road the rest of it was a bit of a chore long days of motorway driving but loads of fun and met some really nice people and saw some great sights and raised over 2 grand for charity.
Mind it was a lot dearer than this one although didn't spend as much on fuel as I expected fuel is a little cheaper in France now with the exchange rate and Liechtenstein has the cheapest fuel in europe I think it was 70 cents a litre
I would prefer a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy. Seek not excess, God hates he who roams !
