Seat tilting mk3 astra

Hi i have a 3 door mk3 Astra and the drivers side seat wont tilt anymore. It's due an mot in february. Would this be a failure? I have phoned loads of scrap yards and none of them have any seats for the 3 door only the 5 door. Any help is appreciated cheers Adrian

Hi mate.
It wont fail if it is secure.
The problem will be with the cable that the lever operates. It may not be broken, just might have come off.
It would be worth removing the seat, turning it over and having a look.
You could be surprised at how easy the repair is. (Hopefully)

The previous owner was huge and has bent the back of the seat out of shape. The bolster is flat with the back lol. Think is knackered

Ah, then it will fail them bud.
I would see if you could fit a pair from another model.

If you do remove the seat, before doing anything put the red plastic tab into the seat belt tensioner (long black cylindrical thing on the outside next to the runner. This is what goes off when in an accident and tightens the seat belt. It has a mahoosive spring inside and once it has gone off it has to be replaced. Also once it has gone off a yellow tab pokes out of the seat belt clip indicating it has been sprung. Once sprung you won't be able to clip your seat belt into it again. Obviously if it has gone off or you cannot clip your seat belt into it, you have an MOT failure.

Were do i get the red things from to stop it from going off?

Clipped to the back of the spring unit. Its there so garages can change the seats without special tools

The seatbelt will still be useable if the yellow bit is out and mines didnt fail the MOT for it showing.

Quick fix would be see if the passenger seat fits on the drivers side, I done this with a talbot samba years ago.

cant you just get a corsa/calibre seat or pair of seats n swop the base/runners?
