which one ???hi, looking to buy my first frontera, has to be diesel has to be lwb and has to be cheap! not asking a lot lol!! what do you that know recommend, the 2.3, 2.5, 2.8? as i'm looking for under a grand... nothing to flash hey! need it for boot space, possibly a bit of light off road (falconry) and probably 50/50 poottling round lanes/dual carriageway once a week for the moment. what should i look out for? problems?
Re: which one ???For reliability and simplicity in my mind its the 2.8tdi, its nippy and a bit noisy, not as refined as the 2.5 and just a tad slower but far far less complicated to work on if anything should go wrong (2.8 section is the quietest part of the forum

Re: which one ???As above mate i have a 2.5td and the 2.8 and the 2.8 is a hell of at lot less hassle also alot cheaper to fix if it goes wrong
Re: which one ???Its a shame as the 2.5 is a fine drive, just bloody too fickle for my liking

Re: which one ???I will echo the comments above.
The 2.3 is not to be sniffed at. Its an old chain cam driven diesel. Its the slowest but as simple to work on as the 2.8. No ECU as everything is mechanical (like the 2. ![]() ![]() My members ride For Banshee the Trooper : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=34626 My members ride for Leeloo the Lotus Edition viewtopic.php?f=46&t=60154 Deceased My members ride for Brenda the Bighorn : viewtopic.php?f=46&t=54771
Re: which one ???hi thanks lads, in my price range i'm mostly finding 2.3 and 2.5's, always fancied a frontera since they came out dunno why. not too much cash at the moment and probably a daft buy but there you go eh!
what is the fuel consommation really like on em? and what should i look out for as "don't touch that one! thanks
Re: which one ???2.5 and 2.8 should return in the region of 30 plus ... 2.3 less so but near that figure with careful driving.

Re: which one ???Im with colley!!

Re: which one ???I've had both a 2.8 and a 3.2 v6 at the same time and wish I had kept both instead of selling one.
They are both as good as each other. The icing on the cake for me would be a swb 2.8 and a swb 3.2 v6 on my drive (dreams) But had both Lwb versions and can't fault them. ROADS? WHERE WERE GOING WE DON'T NEED ROADS!!
Re: which one ???hounddog, by god smarty it's the russians lol !! unfortunatly need road to go get my son every 2 weeks 200mile round trip! round my house don't need roads no dunno know if there is one !!
thats the reason for an oil burner colley and dannyboy... and pompey comes into the affair cos i live in normandie so quick on off boat job pick up car and turn round quick... so if i've followed everything right th 2.5 n 2.8 are more economical than 2.3, but 2.3 and 2.8 moteur more reliable, chain driven and not too much electronic. so it's a 2.8 then!!! anyone got one near pompey southampton bottom end of kent or up towards london? there's a loving dirty muddy home waiting for it and a couple of hawks for the boot decorations!! help need car quick!
Re: which one ???er no-ones said anything about the 2.2dti's... pooh?
Re: which one ???The 2.8 is belt driven but about the most reliable.

Re: which one ???well not being objective but i had a 2.5 and dont think i really had any trouble with it but i have just got the swb 2.8 and will make my mind up but as the 2.5 was LWB and the new 2.8 is SWB lets see how they compare, but i did like my 2.5 but each of us has a different opinion well thats what i found but you get good and bad in all makes of trucks and seeing how old ours are.
