Re: Pay and play sitesTake a picture of your welding, zoom in on it, and then imagine a small frontera in the middle...
Lots of holes, uneven bumps, some holes big enough to loose a fronty in altogether... Get your butt down ere...can do you some welding lessons and you can have play at one of the meets at our own site, which is tailor made around the limits of a fronty... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!
click here for the SE Events Index/links Thread...see all the reviews and whats coming up soon! Looks like I'm in trouble with the Mrs's again... She asked me what I'd most like to do to her body... Apparently "Identify it" is not the correct answer! MAKE IT or BREAK IT! TEAMXTREME4X4 ![]()
Re: Pay and play sitesWhen do you have the meets boss?
Am tempted to weld up the rear Diff ![]() -----------MUD SLUT ~ hitting every hole ~----------
Re: Pay and play sitesNext one is this Sunday...
The following one will be after crimbo and in the new year, dates to be confirmed yet... Re diff welding, welding your rear will give a good performance increase offroad, but will use tyres quicker if you do a fair amount of road use... If its just a toy for playing offroad most of the time, then all well and good, but if you do lots of road miles then fiddle brake the back end instead. You need to get good at welding before do this though mate, from a safety point of view...if a weld breaks and a lump of cog jams the pinion then you could be looking at a 60mph handbrake turn... Re: Pay and play sitesWho said anything about me welding it mate eh eh eh
What's a fiddle brake do? ![]() -----------MUD SLUT ~ hitting every hole ~----------
Re: Pay and play sitesBasically you have a pair of levers inside the car, which operate the rear brakes independantly...so if you cross axle you brake the wheel thats got no grip and transfer the drive to the wheel with traction..if you need to turn a tight turn, you lock the rear wheel on the inside and turn on the spot...if you reversing down a slippy hill and the steering doesnt do much, you can steer by slowing either rear wheel...
Its clever stuff mate, them little trials cars (bike wheels on the front?) have them and climb mountains with just 2wd...a lot of winch challenge trucks have them to...Milneroffroad do the levers, and they cut into your existing brake lines... Hope this makes sense... more info here Tom... http://www.fronteraowners.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=22036 Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: Pay and play sitesAwesome
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hydraulic-Han ... 500wt_1203 I've heard that if you cross axle and gently apply pressure to the brakes this will switch traction over to the grounded wheel? ![]() -----------MUD SLUT ~ hitting every hole ~----------
Re: Pay and play sitesYou would need 2 of them mate...
as for applying gentle braking pressure, I have heard this, but cannot grasp that I would actually do much really, I have tried and not found that it makes any difference... I guess the theory is that more braking effort would manifest in the spinning wheel as it going to be more difficult for it to spin so quick, which I suppose could transfer more drive to the wheel with grip through the diff...but this would transfer to a wheel that is also being braked and is gonna be more reluctant to move with this extra effort in addition to that provided by the traction it has... Not convinced though... Check out the index thread below where pics/reviews from all our past meets can be found!!!!

Re: Pay and play sitesI take it I would need 2 of the ones from milners too?
The breaking to gain traction idea came from Rugged Guide 4x4 Adventure Touring dvd. The 4x4 instructor said what you said. By bringing the spinning wheel to a fairly fast stop it can transfer the drive to the what was grounded wheel??? ![]() -----------MUD SLUT ~ hitting every hole ~----------
