Frontera A 2.0 petrol

Hi all

Looking to get the above frontera going to look at it tomorrow it has full history and 80k what do I need to look out for on this frontera ? I'm looking to get it and do a few mods and use it for some green laneing and off road days and some general day to day driviving in bad weather. Also it's on an s plate does it have switchable 4x4 on it like the frontera B does ?

The 20l doesnt have the vac shift system, good old fashion mechanical system.

Is there an easy way to check the 4 wheel drive on the above frontera then ?

Its best if you find some soft or loose ground to try it on, you can however use 4wd on tarmac in a straight line, engage 4wd and and keep it straight, also see if the light on the dash lights up , check there is a front prop-shaft attached as if there is a problem its been know for the prop to be removed to disguise the fact.
But on this system there is very little to go wrong that can not be easily fixed.

Check the outter sills for rot, fuel lines and brake pipes to the rear by the o/s/r wheel arch area, where the rear roll hoop mounts on the wheel arches oh and around the clutch master cylnder on the bulk head for splits. Other than that just look at the general condition. Mines on an "R" plate had some and had some right stick thrown at it was in very good nick and give £450 for it had a few months tax and short mot. Just done 81000m got do the head on it now as thats give up the ghost but got to say this is my 2nd "A" and love it!

The scuttle tray below the front windscreen can rust through, pay attention to the bodywork around the front windscreen for corrosion bubbles too and also the roof area between the doors just in case mega sized bubbles are forming.

Have a look at the rear diff cover plate for signs of leakage. After time they become porous and show signs of leaking. Replacement's have been hard to source of late, so if the signs are there, listen for rear axle diff whine, it might have been run with low level diff fluid. If the diff sounds OK and the plate is leaking, it's not the end of world, because Greg on here as started selling repaired covers on an exchange basis.
