Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyI personally wouldn't touch a 2.2 petrol at any cost.
2.3td is a plodder, but I liked mine for the 10 days I owned it
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettywhats up with the 2.2 ? take it the 2.3 isnt very powerful then lol
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettytotally agree with si,,, had a few 2.3 td.. good old workhorse.. certainly aint a race car, but then it was never built to be!!
hearing a few horror stories regardin the 2.2,, just look on here and youll see for your self bud!! you have to remember the frontera was not designed or built to be a motorway cruiser.. 2.8tdi lwb.... 2"lift.. 31.10 15s snorkel cb
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyJudging by the numerous posts in here the 2.2 petrol is considered the weakest engine and most prone to spectacular blow ups!!

Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 petty2.8 diesel is by far the best

Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyI don't agree that the 2.8 is best, but I know other disagree.
2.5 in my mind gives the best balance between torque, speed and reliability. They really do go very well.
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyit would have to be a lwb dont see point in gettin a small car for same price as a larger 1 lol. whats the mpg on the 2.8s could re cam a 2.2 arp bottom end up rated head gasket there the same engine from the senitor/ omgea could tinker with it to get a bit more tourque an power and reliability?
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyI think the 2.8's are around 30mpg, the 2.5 slightly higher.
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyI used to get 32 to 34mpg on my 2.8 before the big lumpy tyres and all the other gubbins where fitted and the pump slightly tweaked, I reckon taking it really easy I can get 430 miles to an 80 litre tank.
But realistic driving its about 390 miles per tank. Ste

Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyI got the 2.2 petrol eco.let me 1st say when i first had it, it looked and sounded great, but then my nightmare started, egr, headgasket, timing belt waterpump, cat collapse, but since i put her right not an iota of a problem, except fuel consumption, only last week i pulled a 3500kg iveko luton out of a 100yd grass bank in the pi****g down rain did,nt even know it was on my back end.but don,t get me wrong she,s out of the door afta Christmas, just can,t do the fuel any longer and am going in for a diesel,so wanna ask the guys on here what,s your thought,s on the 2.2 dti?
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyLet us know what you going for crash n die. I've only ever owned my 2.0l but since I 1st came on here everyone has said the 2.2's suck.
Go for the 2.0l Paul's selling like my missus says about mine: It's short and fat but it fills the gap... ( my truck that is ) ![]() -----------MUD SLUT ~ hitting every hole ~----------
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyHi try the 2.3 as I would put my old one up against any 2.2 or 2.4 for performance and economy 30 mpg
I have found 2 2.3 owners with sluggish engines and they have had a broken vacuum pipe, the engine should smoke under hard acceleration due to a vacuum excess fuel system.
Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyThe other thing to check on the 2.3 is the turbo hose, they go pourus and loose pressure and boost, change that and it will be like a new car if its porus.

Re: 2.3 td or 2.2 pettyAlso the 2.3 has a chain cam, and no electronics. Far far simpler and far far more reliable.
