Re: noob here quick questionThe truth is the 2.2 petrol is a very weak engine, you can get good ones but when they blow they really blow, rod out of the block situation.
Look for overheating and a knocking from the engine, this can be disguised with very thick oil as a few here have found out. My view is the engine has been pushed too far with its capabilities in this model big of big and heavy car, sorry If you can go for the 2.2tdi, a better bet Ste

Re: noob here quick questionAhhaa
They are good engines, main problems are vacuum pipe related and fuel pumps, main cause of fuel pump failure is running out of fuel and cranking the engine, expect a £600+ bill for that one, occasionally the pump ecu fails but that is a lot cheaper to fix. Ste

Re: noob here quick questionIt would be nice if it had some history with with it and even nicer if it had the pump replaced at some time during its lifetime

Re: noob here quick questionjust back from having a quick look at it, was actualy a black s reg 2.2dti swb with 109000miles on it! was rather ruff round the edges and untidy (guy never expected anyone). guy has 3 of them and it was a silver swb 2.2dti 4 sale with no mot and a cracking dent in the wing £700! the black 1 realy takes ma fancy tho and he said £1200 went a run in it and it pulls prity well and no knocks or bangs! ill maby go see him again next week with a mechanic pall and give it a proper once over

Re: noob here quick questionRight, looked at a 2.2 rs dti there, late 2000 model! Drove ok, brakes felt a little vauge and the bite on the clutch was prity severe (never realy drove a 4x4 and going from a type R) lol but was no bangs or rattles atal! Body seemed prity good aswell, well apart from in the rear bumper! Was nowt there? And the A frame was a bit wavily? Are these all comon things and are they serious?
Re: noob here quick questionWas there no rear bumper at all and when you say A frame do you mean the A bar/bull bar on the front of the vehicle? If these are missing and or bent then it may be worth giving it an HPI check to see if it has any history. 4x4 brakes will feel vague compared to your type R. If running gear is good and straight it sounds like you could beat the price down due to the bumper damage.

Re: noob here quick questionYeah I mean the bull Barr Lol it's no bent or that, I just don't think it's attached properly... There was use of some cable ties... And when I say the bak bumper I mean that the steel below the step on the bumper is rotten! There is another hidden bracket holding it on! Interesting to say the least! It's been in my local area 4 a good fue years! And it been haggled to £1100... I'm no sure weather this is a reasonable price to Pay?
