using a kinetic strap

Learnt a lot of info from watching that guy - I think he featured on a satellite programme last year, possibly in the 4x4 series broadcast on an Africa channel with Andrew St Pierre White - Andrew had a series of 4x4 expedition prep programmes. Tried to source one of his TV series associated books - even 2nd hand of unknown condition it was in excess of £40, so the book remains somewhere on a shelf in Africa.

You shouldnt really need a kinetic strap when greenlaning as if your going to get that stuck you shouldnt be on the lane.

There are good bits of kit but you have to be positive your recovery points can take the massive strain or you can kill someone.


This strop looks like the recovery point failed and embedded into the tyre.




I personally do not like them, plus after use they need to be washed and dried and left for 24 hours to regain their kinetic properties.

Ive got a kenetic rope and i have used it with great succes but im allways wary that things can go wrong. But all in all a usefull addition to the arsenal!!!

I have 2, one is like a flat strop which I have never used and the other is a Kinetic Recovery Rope from Goodwinch which I have used a few times. First time was at Avalanche when Sir Dorris had to tug me out of the slurry, tried normal strap and failed, the KERR worked a treat Have also used it a few times since to shift others that were stuck.

As already stated you need to have good quality recovery points fitted, even better if you use a bridle to spread the load

What do these different straps do? For example why us a kinetic instead of a normal strap?

In short a normal rope would have a limited amount of elastic property whereas a kinetic strap has a fair bitof elasticity that will allow the strap to stretch then gather so you can apply the jolt and the strap will be able to cope with the massive strain without breaking. Trust this helps - a very very basic description.

Cheers mate very informative I just want to understand which is best in the boot. I have just purchaser a cheap 4t hand winch and have read snatch blocks "double" it's pulling capacity??? So I learn all this stuff now
