2.5td advice needed!

Hi all, I'm hoping you can help...

I have been offered a 1998 2.5td, 118,000 miles, fsh and MOT til March 2012. One owner from new. It's the long wheelbase version with 5 doors.

How do these generally fair at such mileages when looked after? I'm ok with a spanner, but ideally don't want to spend all my time under the bonnet if possible!

Lastly, what sort of price is about right for this? I've been offered it for £1000.

I'd really appreciate any pointers on this! Thanks for any help.

As long as they're services regular they'll go on for ages. Common fault is egr valve gets clogged, but not a difficult job to strip and clean. Nice and powerful and should get around 30mpg too.

Do you think that's a fair enough price? I've seen more expensive and I've seen a lot cheaper, so it's kind of hard for me to gauge.

If it has been looked after, then snap it up mate. Ask to see the service history, to make sure its up to date.
Oil and filter change every 5000 miles, and fuel filter and the engine will run for ever.
Common faults as James says, is the EGR valve clogging up, and also the No1 injector which has a sensor built in to it.
This can be expensive to replace if faulty.
Great pulling power and you may get the high 30s in fuel economy. I was getting 38 when last checked, and i have a lot on the roof of mine. It also depends how you drive it of course.
