Found a nice looking RS DTI (Help)

Hi all,

Ive located a Sport RS DTI Auto in Manchester at a small dealer.

Its done 52k, is an auto, lots of history, MOTs etc

Sounds nice guy, but im in Bristol, so want to go up Sunday and do a deal and come away with the Car.

Does anyone with Good Knowledge live in Manchester Area and want to earn a few £££ looking over the car for me ?

Id rather that than use the AA inspection service

Im Pooping myself because i have no Mechanical knowledge whatsoeever, and cant afford to make a mistake !

i dont really think any member is going to take on that sort of responsibility on your behalf, you might get someone whos prepared to have a quick look & give you the heads up reguarding its general condition etc ,but if your worried about the mechanical side & you dont want to take the long trip without prior knowledge then i would of thought an aa inspection service [or a similiar company] would be ideal for you especially if you cant afford to make a mistake, im not sure what they charge now but probably not more than £200 is it ?
on the whole the 2.2dti is a reliable truck the weak point seems to be the fuel pump, as long as you dont run out of fuel with only 52k she should be ok for many a mile more, being a b series it might also suffer from some dashboard instrument features intermittently working or failures but that can be a cheap fix via another members repair service

HI parrot my advice is that you definitely need somebody who understands a 2.2 DTI to check it out before you buy it !!

Also it's an Automatic, some of the guys on the Forum have had some serious problems with those

Don't be in a rush to buy the first one that comes along - as there are some really good ones out there

Miles seem good, whats the service like?

Who is the garage, im not a million miles away and can check their reputation easily enough, im also up that way next week (Wed) so would take a look, but then your taking my word for it.

Ive bought a few cars over the phone with no problems, from a 500 quid runabout to 23k worth of Shogun, so check the warranty on it (law is 28 days), ask for ANY problems or issues?

You can have an AA inspection which gives a bit of piece of mind, but they can't see inside the engine, gearbox axles etc, so you still are only getting an outside visual report. I had one done on a vehicle and they didn't even pick up on a leaking rad

Gut feeling plays its part. Write down all the things you would check and ask if you were going to look at it in person and go through it all on the phone with the seller. Ask him for a general walk-around description. If he hasn't got the time or brushes you off, thank him for his time and hang-up.

Plenty of cars out there and if you are not in a hurry, hang out for something closer that you can go and see and drive with a mate or two. Happy hunting
