After the annual meet drowning my 2.8 took, it seems my joy at bringing her back to health may have been a bit premature. She has started smoking again and the turbo seems to spin on after engine shut off for an age. I checked the oil yesterday and it seems 3 litres of it has been burnt off . I pulled off the turbo intake pipe off to check the turbo itself and discovered some new play in the turbine. So all in all, to my mind its cream crackered. Unfortunately for me funds are just not available at present so its going to get parked and left. For how long I dont know...Gutted Robbie just sent me a PM with a link to a company that sell turbo refurb kits, but I was under the impression that the 2.8 turbo was non serviceable...... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Turbo-Repair-Rebu ... 7165wt_906

Get a second hand one from a 1992-1994 Trooper Then a new exhaust manifold gasket from anywhere. Should cost less than £100 in all.

Is it belching smoke out now...??? Chin up mate, we'll get it sorted somehow...

Sounds like oil is getting past the turbo seals and being burnt in the chambers, be careful as you could end up sucking in oil and running on the oil+ a big bang. That sounds rough Greg Phone me

Thats what I thought Ste, fubar'd. Will have to wait then, no cash at the mo..... Glad I still got my van . Strange because it smokes intermittently, but when it starts smoking if I give it some big throttle it will clear it. Seems worse while town driving because of the stop/starting....

Kel - I've just bought a spare turbo that alledgedly as only done 600 miles. I over sniped it and ended up paying £150 for it It's my intention to swap it over with the existing one and keep the original as a spare. Now if we can sort out what gasket's we need and sort a date out perhaps we could put my newer one on and you could borrow my original one short term until you can get some cash together for a permanent replacement.

Just P.M.d you Kel. Now we need some helpful pointers from peeps that have done turbo swaps. Reckon we need to start by sourcing replacement gaskets, so does anybody know a supplier (either Vauxhall or Isuzu parts) thats a good bet. Not sure if heat and rust normally results in any of the bolts/nuts being right barstewards to remove so would we be thinking from the sharp end if we had replacement bolts etc to hand?
